Rabia Minhas

Hot Toddy

Warm
Brown
Sugar
Vanilla
Silky smooth
Makes me relax and forget about my day
As she infects me
Everything inside me begins to sing
Steam rises
And in its wafting presence
Is her scent
Her sweetness is not overpowering
Because it's all real
I place her at my lips and take a drink
Instant comfort
Makes me feel like I'm covered in a perfect
Warm
Soft
Cozy
Feels like I'm home

Monday Morning Coffee

Most people don't look forward to Monday mornings...
I do.
It's the start of something new...
It's a clean slate
I like my Monday morning ritual
I wake up extra early.
Well,
It's early for me.
I get ready for work.
Hopeful,
That it will be a pretty good week.
I go to my favorite doughnut shop.
It really is owned by a mom and a pop...
I walk in at 6: 30
Two smiling faces greet me
She always says a 'good morning'
And,
He's either whistling or singing to the doughnuts...
Maybe that's why they're so extra sweet
An extra tasty treat.

Monsoon Nights

I miss it...
The smell of the initial raindrops as they hit
The dry parched earth
Waiting, eagerly
for the rain to quench her thirst.
I remember
The happiness I felt hearing
The staccato notes the fat raindrops made on my tin rooftop
A torrent to be swept up in.
I miss it...
The feel of my skin under your hands
Somehow it felt softer, smoother, silkier
Next to you.
I remember
How I felt like my tongue tasted sweeter
In your mouth...
Hibiscus nectar.
Those monsoon full moon nights
When I would sneak away to meet you.
We'd walk hand in hand

Me

I stand here before you,
Transfixed,
Transformed.
I've lived the life of a phoenix.
I was reborn from my own ashes
Only to look back and laugh at what
burned me.
I am here
Understanding myself as never before
Knowing, fully, who I am.
Do you know yourself?
Are you living authentically?
I am more at peace with myself now
Than ever I've been before.
What people think does not bother me.
I don't bother with those types of people anymore.
It's amazing how afraid I was of the fire
Yet,
Like a moth, I was drawn to its flames.
It wasn't enough to have charred wings

Our Loss

God walks the Earth no more
And
We, are left alone.
To fight our battles
Climb our hills
To watch our personal dawns.
We feel no more
Our passions dead.
We have gone
Where only mortals tread.
We have no hearts
Our loves are lost
Our innocence
The greatest cost.
What remains
But, empty skeletons
Godless creatures, gutless men.
We have no hearts
Nothing beats in our chest.
Savages all, yet worse our cost

Imagining the Reunion

How long have I been here
A day
A week
I've forgotten what you look like.
How, when we were together
You
and
Me
What was it that you use to say
To get me to laugh that way?
Can you remember?
Nope
Not
Me.
How was it you would look at me
And
I
Understood.
Every day brings something new
And, so does every week.

Confused

I thought I knew
Thought I may have figured it out
But
Then
It became so confusing
And
Now
I'm just not so sure
Of
What I thought I understood
I thought I could be certain
Thought I was able to see
With
Some sort of certainty
Even though
How could I be
So
Confident
When, really
I didn't know

Frustration

I seem to be
Running out of words
Some feelings
Are just not meant to be read I guess
There are no metaphors
Beautiful enough
Painful enough
Honest enough
To describe the experience of me
In my frustrated futile way
To capture some snapshots of feeling
Hoping they will develop into the portrait I intended
Always wondering
If they are a true enough representation
If they have really captured
What I'm trying to convey
I stumble over inadequate words
Trying to express all that I wish to convey
Feeling confused
By your reply

I Remember

I remember tasting raindrops
On my tongue.
Dancing under apple blossoms
In that white dress you loved so much

I remember
Us.

The 'us' is no longer there
But that's ok..
The longing has left me
Now there is just a dull aching pain.

When you walked away
Without ever turning to say good bye
You left a hole in my soul
I never thought would fill.

Your hand print was
Forever engraved in my flesh

What Happened

Words no longer come to me
As easily as they once use to.
I'm not sure if it's from a lack of passion,
Or from a life that's caused exhaustion...
Yes,
I'm tired.
I'll admit it to you today.
I feel as if I've lived so many lives..
And carried the weight of them all
In
This
one
little
Life.
No,
I'm not saying it should be easy.
But,
Why does it have to be so difficult?
I don't fit... it seems anywhere.
I can no longer be excited by
