Winter I

The changling that is winter,
Heralded by the bitter wind
Rattling out of the east,
Is upon us as the nights extend.
The savage frost laces windows
Covers the trees branch and stem
With a sugar coating of ice
Diamonds they sparkle in the sun
Only to dissolve at its touch
To evaporate into the frigid air
A smokey dream an illusion,
For this is winters alchemy.

When a Fish Rides a Bicycle

When a fish rides a bicycle,
All women will be free.
Men will be colour blind,
When an octopus climbs a tree.
Everyone will be equal no one take a side,
And we'll get rid of hatred, prejudice and pride.
And when a whale walks on the sands,
Then justice will reign in all the lands.
But sadly till that happy day,
The world will go the same old way.

Unconnected Thought

Words wrapped around,
There is no meaning.
Voices lost to the ether,
The electric hum on the net.
No one sees or hears.
Voices drown in the clamour
Of the me firsts, the I's, the me's.
In this democracy of self
No one listens, takes time.
Words need welding,
To be fashioned honed
So that their meaning shines.
Not the endless repetitious babble
Of the unconnected thought.

Deep Clay (Stream V)

In mourning,
Your last morning
Bright and clear.
Clearly you wouldn't see it
For you were now blind.
I blinded by tears,
Me on this earth
You laid in earth.
Deep in your wooden home
Far from home,
In clay deep and cold.
I now lie cold
Alone on my side
Your side empty
I avoid the void
Avoid your space.
My space,
An empty space.
Empty heart
Broken heart,

Poor Fools

Poor fools we are-
We cannot seem to touch.
Although we are so near
A heart beat apart,
But we are walled off
Each in our cell of misery.
We built this wall high.
Cemented it with our tears.
Set each brick with pain.
Disected our love.
Sliced it into a thousand pieces;
Cut each other with cruel words.
Until it withered - died.
And we are left with dust.

War Dead

As the sun sets tremulous,
The carrion church wardens,
Shadowy paradoxes, stand sentinel.
The pale eyed dead look on silent
At this memorial to conflict.
These stark floral tributes;
Wreaths woven in blood red
These poppies of sacrifice,
To the slaughter of wars past.
They do not glorify war.....no,
But honour the long dead.

Betrayal

This time caught out.
Your betrayal is as old time
You throw your time bomb
Choosing the time frame
With your usual bad timing.
Your excuses time worn.
Its not the first time.
I catch myself just in time
Time for a time out,
Stunned.
Time elongates.
Stands still, a still life
At my time of life
I should know better
Time to move on
No longer to give you the time of day.

Not a Good Place to Die

Not a Good Place to Die

Not a good place to die,
Airless room.
Blank walls.

Not a good place to die,
Here death hovers.
A disinfectant smell.

Not a good place to die,
Hid away from all.
Arid stark.

Not a good place to die,
No cool breeze.
Warm sun on face.

Not a good place to die,
Alone and scared.

Just Passing Time

Passing time,
Time passes.
And longing for times past.
With no pastime,
I think of past times.
Times of joy.
Sorrowful times.
Layered.
Like an alluvial plain,
I am inundated, flooded.
As the past floods in
Passing by the inner eye
I time travel.
Bad thoughts by passed
Passed all thought
They pass away.
Pass into the past
To lie again quiescent
A timely demise
For times past.

Monuments

Crystal the desert
Sands sifted in dry air
Sun flecked sparkling.
Wind plays out,
Whistling, weathering rock
Sculpting.
Sand blasts in desert storms.
Fine glass moulds, shapes,
Caresses, smooths.
Forged in the heat of the desert days
Cold of its night.
Making monuments to natures art.
Towers of pink and yellow
Watch over rock strewn plains
Waterless river beds
In silent serenity.
