The Vase
The 'vase', (baa'se)
Flowerful;
roses and five petal white
So odious
a Grecian urn
In 14K kissed lips,
blackened body
shouting white
unidentifiable flowers
Standing unpretentiously
on the middle
of the table
Proclaiming the world is Flatt
'don't go too far!
'or you'll go over the edge.'

Dream Dies
So aother dream dies
And another I suppose ends up in blue skies
Give me a why?
Not tonight, not tomorrow
There's nothing to say
You are a shadow in a flame
A blue flame, but it burns cold
So cold it burns, cold white hot and blue
Be the reason, come down star
Take me away to where nothing
Is all it seems

The Original Midnight's Voice: Gene Crutcher
To
touch:
is everything
connecting everything
enduring beyond the pain
beyond:
always beyond
taking steps that go
beyond...
beyond....
...stardust...
Stretching far beyond
the lightyear...years...
beyond the voice...
The voice of a frustrated
taximan

Universal Love
We all want
that universal love
so big, so vast.
And we all want it
to go on forever,
to last and last.
And we are all
looking here and there
the future, our past.
But it seems that
it is to never be
in the sky or the sea
Love flies free
as a hummingbird...
hovers for a moment
taking our nectar
and then flees.

I'll Have My Christmas Cake And Eat It Too
November...
December...
Two more howevers
Two more pure hangovers
With Christmas about to crash down
I'm sure there will be no survivors
Santa Claus discovered the 'slim fast diet'
Lost 200 Lbs and joined a rock/roll band
As a drummer now down in Jamaica
He's changed his name and his game
Known now as Rasta Claus

Southern Passages
A touch of sadness,
Ten year gone
Like a midnights voice
of a far away song
Caught me unaware
When I thought
I no longer care
A sudden spark
that flew
Into eternity
A dance done then
None done
In effigy
A poetic terse
taughtly strung
Diligently
Fades away...at first dawn.

Up the Downside of Life
God never said it would be easy
Just forgiven
God never promised joy and happiness
Just comfort and compassion
And all those trials and all those tragedies
Are as sure as sunrise, sunset
There are shadows in the valley of death
I...I fear alone
But when I becomes a 'we'
Then we fear not any evil

Yesterday's Gold
Yesterday's gold
Is so cold
Til I slip it upon
My finger again
Then it Burns
Again so hot
I can't stop
Recall it all
And what it
Meant to me
That's when I stop
And put the ring away
These days are
Winter's white
And far, far, too far
To say

July 15th,1991 Poem
Half gone;
half thru...
Half baked;
Simmer blue
Thumbing through
a book of
blank
pages
Feeling frustration
consternation
Beginnings end
the same,
As a numbness
Creeps into my brain
Buries the pain
and the past
but at what price,
all tomorrows due

The Eternity of a Sunset
I gaze into the eternity of a sunset
So it just seems
How reassuring to be
For billions of years
Yet disconcerting nevertheless
How complete
Finality eventually is
Except for perhaps
The lunatic in us all
And that lunacy
