Midnights Voice

The Easy Choices We Make

A twelve inch ruler
and you're pushing thirteen
Tell me Dylan Thomas
can I go beyond my dreams
I left searching for somewhere a middle
but my ship was made way far too brittle
Lightning lash, and the thunderous booms
my ship went under the spray capped swoons
I had a choice to make that day
to swim for it, sink, or float where I lay
I chose the latter, for what did have I to loose
If I didn't make it at least I was fish food

Leaving Those Blues Behind

Going training...yes training
hopping freight cars
and leaving the
blues behind

Tired of trying...yes trying
I'm burning
all the bridges, leaving all
those blues bebind

Tomorrow will bring
a new day
far away...far away
from those big bad blues

So I'm leaving
clicka the clack, the rails
take me away
from the blues

Zorba

The tears are hiding behind
the corners of his eyes,
welling but held at bay.

The days are swelling
like the dead porpoise
shot in the head.

Rarely...meaning so much...
from love to good steak,
to your streak of good luck.

And I dreamed Zorba the Greek
said to me, 'If you eat grapes
you're left with the stems.

I'm left with the days of my life
and the grapes have all gone down
And all I have left
are seeds and stems.

Tissue Paper Reality

He dealt in tissue paper reality.
Layered upon layers of issues
Of nothing at Heart.
As empty inside as the wind
That blew the papers apart.
He wore his emptiness like a badge.
Futility was his halo, a cold
Empty glow of nothingness.
And as his Tongue wagged
The sounds were unintelligible.
And when he stopped his eyes
Beamed with approval.
While I wondered, pondered,
Without disapproval.
Simply dazed, amazed,
Wishing I was not there.

It Is My Pleasure

It is my pleasure
It is like making love to you
The better the poem
The hotter I get
And my words
Are all I have to make
You feel my passion
Until that day
I will ravage your body
With my vowels
And my pronouns will
Lick you insane
And my nouns will I
Penetrate you with and
Adjectives will pound
And pound and pound
Viciously until you come
And my subjectives
Will drain all
My pretense into you

History

So far away...
history now

The magic...
burns beyond
the ashes on the ground

The magic,
on the streets
in our eyes,
through our lives...

so far away.

The decades flip
as pages to
a short book

The days were run down
like waves before

Dog Lashing

Strong winds are howling
Like hungry wolves prowling
Lightning striking from far, far away

Limbs off and a snapping
The shingles to backing
Snapping at you with libelous say

A dog that's lashing
His words are trashing
Good poet who's pure in way

God is a witness
And he insists this
For sins you will surely pay

Strong winds are howling
By then avowing
the winds are turning it's sway

Another Second

asking to wait
another second

is a shard of glass
from my broken heart

cutting my life short
moment by moment

my love's aching
heart can bleed

only so long
before all love is lost

and I am caged and wail at
the night for love denied

and dried desire looms
ever closer to me

Cain't remember their names anymore

November 6,2004
10: 38 P.M.
And 'Daniel must be the clouds in my eyes',

For the age of more we have less
Counting the tears just one by one,
By one, bye one, be gone

Where an old photo, my smiling father's youth
On my tabled desk, in his Army uniform.

I think of people, I can't remember their names
Anymore.
I think of places I need to be before
There is evermore.

The wind will turn cold

The wolf will run hungry.

Leaching Time

The sun sets in more,
on less,
than just the day

As the cataracks of the river
cloud my eyes
and the tears feed the springs
that go dry

I am time that passes you by

Life cuts your wrists
to drain the leeches
as they sigh, always asking
'Why? ', with blood on their lips.

The moon rises
full moon blue
upside down...dark side down
just below the ground
