Dream Work
Though I have only experimented with it briefly, I am a believer in ‘Lucid Dreaming’
Do you ever create poetry in your dreams? Or do you perhaps compose music?
Do you solve complex problems? Or have you ever thought up a joke?
I have done all of the above and of course many more entertaining things.
Dreams amaze and delight me. Do you remember your dreams?
I often do and one morning woke up with this small poem in complete form.
It is not the greatest poem, but I was amazed nonetheless. I will share it now below:
Dream Work
As sure as I am shooting
As far as I can tell
All things of worth
Persist in dreams
So make them serve you well.

Bliss of a Peaceful Heart
Which face grits its teeth to grin
how often lacks for real joy
and clenches its jaw while a spin
story maneuvers to deploy
What passes for a smile
or chuckles as with mirth
may be tending all the while
secret flames to scorch the earth
Where loudest laugher may burst
forth from lips pressed ribbon thin
convivial themes may not be the first
ideas claiming precedence within
Who blathers both often and loud
or makes of life an easy boast
may be the last one in the crowd
with a cause celebre to toast

zPt #5 A Single Flower
If I could choose a single gift
to give to all mankind
I’d walk calmly to the backyard garden
where against the fence I’d find
a single flower, that grew
and bloomed in the spring
to wave in gentle breezes
and through it’s silence sing
the praises of the pure virtue, Love
and assure all men that there is good.
Mary Havran
(Written when poet was twelve years old)
A note to the reader: I have recently spent some time revisiting my earliest poetic efforts and upon reflection have decided to post some on this site. Poems whose titles are prefixed with the designation “zPt” are poems written during my preteen years. I hope you find them interesting.

Godsends
God sends the rain to fall
ln its like proportions
upon both the wicked and the just
gentle raindrops... godsends
steady showers... godsends
dreadful downpours... God sends
raindrops... godsends to tender shoots
showers... godsends to the flowers
nature justly rewarded, thus rewards
equally with godsends of bounty
both the wicked and the just
meantime streams flow gently to the rivers
rivers bless landscapes they follow
godsends to parched places
until God sends rain in excess
rivers race in rising torrents
roaring without caution

Candy Hearts Can Kill
CUTE ONE, BE MINE, LOVE ME
Valentine’s day brings them out
BE TRUE, KISS ME, HUG ME,
Sayings candy Sweethearts shout
Jumbled like a crazy quilt
Field of pastel blossoms
pink, orange, purple, green, yellow, white
and now soft brown chocolate too
Spill them out
And hear them shout
Those mocking slogans
at you
NEW LOVE, MY GUY
BABY GIRL, ONLY U
MY SWEET, ONE LOVE
That’s how candy can torture you
MISS YOU, CALL ME,

Taking the Leap (For Tara & Ez)
Love has such a great way of growing
Often by leaps and bounds lovers say
Loving hearts have a way of knowing
When to decide on a Wedding Day
So Leap year is really quite fitting
Extra special to happen this way
Leaping hearts fluttering and flitting
With joy heading to a Wedding Day
Love does not tell time by a clock face
Calendar neither holds any sway
Love moves on at hearts very own pace
So do two hearts chose a Wedding Day
Enjoy all the moments that will come
There’s not really much more I need say
Two hearts are rejoicing in one home
Having heart-picked their own Wedding Day

Small Mourning Pieces
No time to prepare
Shoved over cliff by sorrows
Float down now, gently
Grief comes as strong waves
Tide that never seems to ebb
Let it wash your soul
Nasty Opponent
Grief punches all breath away
Never a fair fight
No time for Heroes
Pain strips away a brave face
Wear no mask for now
Heavy stones of grief
Lighten them with memories
Friendships ease the load

Anniversary (For Jim)
Before any sweet voice ever sounded
Or soft caresses ever sought to reach
When the Sun was only a cruel flame
Wandering the sky’s deserted beach
When Love was but a killing thirst
Unquenched even by boldest dream
And Hope, immutable aching hunger
Threading through life’s every seam
When time was but a taunting curse
And calendars marked only pain
When heartbeats served no purpose
But pulse longing through each vein
When night hid every wishing star
And no breeze dared stir any tree
When no birds sang, or laughter rang
What rare miracle led you to me?

Advice of Elders (for what it’s worth)
I remember, yes remember
Though distant the sounds of youth
Older people voicing warnings
Their ancient versions of the truth
I do recall, yes I recall
Though the words seem fainter now
Dismissing it as only chatter
Not worth my time at all
I laughed, yes I laughed
Oh and rolled my eyes away
Convinced I need not worry
Over things that they might say
I dismissed them, yep I dissed them
Those dinosaurs in rocking chairs
Disbelieving golden wisdom
Lay beneath their silvered hairs
