Democracy a Farce
Medical science advances with giant strides
State out of sync with the pulse of times.
A law abiding couple’s plea to abort rejected
While female infanticide illegally rampant.
Political masters
Just wielding power.
Antiquated laws
Reveal the basic flaw-
Indian State
Decides its citizens’ fate.
Did we hear Constitution provides
Some Fundamental Rights?
Govt. for the people, by the people, of the people
Nay, simply without vision and principles

Its Time To Say Farewell
The countdown has begun,
As you prepare to leave coming autumn.
You look excited yet subdued,
At times I catch you brood.
Yes, it’s hard to leave behind,
All you have known all your life.
Stepping out of home for the first time,
To go away thousands of miles.
So much change can cause anybody,
A lot of anticipatory anxiety.
If you get homesick and feel out of place,
We can meet and chat in cyber space.
use this time to expore the city,
with abandon like a nomad and a gypsy.
walk the streets, taste the food
talk to the locals, get into the mood.

Capricious Moods of Nature
I was sitting on my terrace,
A smile lit up my face.
As I looked up
Sipping tea from my blue cup.
The sky was overcast,
I don’t know when was the last
Time I felt so serene and gay.
It had to be due to the cool breeze, rare in May.
In no time it started to pour,
A tiny black bird came to rest at my door.
It looked disheveled as it was soaked to the skin.
I felt she was in some way my kin.
The colors, shapes, capricious moods of nature
Filled me with a sense of wonder.
And I thought what fun the creator
Must have had letting his imagination wander.

Seasons of Life- Haibun! ! ! !
I gather dry leaves,
Autumnal hues still alive;
Fresh flowers fade, wilt.
Poppies dance in breeze,
Bright red nodding their head,
On crowded pathway.
Hot winds are blowing,
Stay indoors, sip lemon tea;
Await evening breeze.
Pomegranate-
Arils the shade of garnets,
Jewels, on my plate.
Sun is westward bound,
I gaze from a rock on beach…
Silence, despite crowd.

One Night Stand
It’s hard to say good bye
So don’t even try.
Don’t wait in car for long
To watch me enveloped by fog.
Let the memories we have built
Warm our heart without guilt.
It had no future
We knew, so don’t brood
Don’t allow regret to fill you
With disqietitude, for these few
Hours when we made a connection
And made love with abandon,
Sharing dreams till late at night
In the dark with no lights
My head on your shoulder
And you gently stroking my hair

Hanging by a Slender Thread...! ! ! !
Standing hunched on the parapet of a high rise,
At dusk, waiting impatiently for the night fall.
So many thoughts raced through the mind
Like a tree top shaking during a storm.
He climbed down…to or not to jump,
What if I just end up with broken limbs?
He thought tearfully swallowing a lump
In his throat; that would be worse than this…
Awoke startled, as birds announced it was dawn,
Is taking an extreme step an act of courage or cowardice?
Shaking the dust off his jeans saw the Sun rise…
Lines on the brow, in the morning light, pronounced.
Bedridden and injured… it would be living death,
Let us give life a try, he thought with a deep breath.
Never felt more alive, after he was gently chastised
Life is precious- a gift, bowed, grateful for the advice…

What If
What if I couldn’t see?
I wouldn’t know how to be.
What if I couldn’t walk?
I wouldn’t be able to go to the park.
What if I couldn’t smell?
I wouldn’t know early monsoon shower smell.
What if I couldn’t feel?
I wouldn’t even know how to heal.
What if I couldn’t taste?
All the gourmet food would go to waste.
What if I couldn’t touch?
I wouldn’t know love as such.
What if I couldn’t cry?
I wouldn’t be able to let go of grief even if I try.

Communion With Flowers
A bunch of fresh flowers,
Have the divine power
To lift your mood,
As only prayer could.
As you lie in silent despair
In pain, alone, unable to share,
Friends and relatives come
And ask you what you have done
To yourself, to lie prostrate
And try to commiserate.
You dare not take off your mask
And pretend you are fine when they ask,
For they get uneasy if you reveal
The pain is too much to bear and deal.
Hence I feel,
I can help myself heal,
If I talk to the sublime flowers
For they have the divine power.

A Walk In The Park
On a wintry morn, just for a lark,
I went for a morning walk.
All of a sudden I spotted roses bloom.
I stood spellbound watching the hues
And had my daily talk with God,
And said out aloud, Lord
How do you do it?
While we hassled, sit
And moan about life being dreary
At the end of the day when we are weary.
As I walked past flower beds,
In colors- pink, white, violet and red.
Poppy, Calendula, Pansy, Flox
Their smiling upturned faces seem to mock.
They will die in a day or two,
I thought as I saw the petals covered with dew.
They just bloom unaware of their beauty,
Has God sent them to fulfill a duty?

Generation Gap
Mom, I have met
A girl on the Internet.
I think, I can’t find another
Soul mate like her.
I can’t believe it’s happening to me,
Can I go to Holland to see?
I couldn’t fathom my emotions-
Disbelief, pain anger all were in motion.
I didn’t know what to say,
I could see there was no way
I could dissuade him.
The situation seemed grim.
Is this how it happens these days?
I felt ancient in many ways.
Someone you haven’t made eye contact
With, or seen a movie while holding hands
