Bar Fly Queen

I've polished up my hard heart
and now it gleams.
diamond-studded
and it seats itself
in its setting
at the bar
where all the cowboys
come
and chip away
at its facets
word chisels flash
crack on its face
and fade away
with yet another on the way
none making a scratch
because this heart was forged
in the whirlwind
in the maw of a volcano
heat-sealed
and it was spewed out from a thousand

Vows and Promises

In life we are the promises we make
'til death due us part; '
we are the vows we take
in ceremonies grave

in public places
or private private thoughts
(I shall never be like dad)
(I shall never be like mom)
vows and promises define
the sign posts we use
to navigate life;
from these our commitments flow;
from these
we trace
our views
from early on
bequeathed to progeny
who vow
for or against what we

z-Force Majeure

How then does Force Majeure
threaten all existence;
often wielded by the bluntest instrument?

How can it be
that rank murder
can Imagination extinguish?

How can human genius be crushed
by a louts blow,
ignorant of kindness
or the million years it took
to create the opposable thumb
then used to bludgeon the human skull.

What justice is there then
in a world so arduously created
but so easily destroyed
by means foul and low?

Good Beginning

She did not speak of it but I knew
the words she'd say if she could;
it was in the way she moved
body movements which showed anticipation mixed with a fear of disappointment and perhaps even failure.

It was as if she had grown weary of watching Hope Float
only to see it descend into Sorrows Nest.

It is the thing most
women dare not speak of
not ask for
yet pray for
but I knew
I knew
the signs;
the wavering
in the body heart
the body which
had not
known full fulfillment

The Sacrifice of Me and Jesus

He said to the Ocean
'how deep your depths,
how many waves
each day crest? '

What mountains
reside
below;
what volcanoes
have you seen
in your watery
life? '

Why must I swim
in you
and risk a drowning
if your waters inside
I breathe? '

What ironies in the ocean blue;

Affirmations

In the slippings of my mind-
the errant misses
the missing blisses-
gather together all the remisses
all cousins
each making statements
proud and forelorn
joyous and now shorn
of all excuses and illusions
and pretty color smoke mirrors
to state simply and clearly
how each in accounting for itself
could explain
my great and small decisions
each bickering with one another
each casting subtle blame
as to how the other
had ruined me, my name
caused trouble and mayhem
whilst I looked on

Alphabet Spaces

In my mind rambles
ideas which seek to unscramble
and grant me crystal clear consistency
but the more I try to wrangle
ideas about Physics and Religion
the more they metamorphosize
into same and similar.

The more I learn about anything
the less I know about the whole
of any and all disciplines;
so I succumb to debates about
T's and I's
while forgetting my alphabet.

For example, if I take my own name
and examine it minutely,
space and letter
nano-space by nano-space
I cannot ever

There Is No Such Thing As An Individual

She looked at me
and asked.
'What is your answer? '

I was startled
and caught up short.

Simple question.

But I did not know
what the answer was.

'Who am I'?
I blurted out
vying for time;
I gave her my name
narrowing it to the millions
of Jim Jones in the world.

But am I my name?

Indefinite Pronouns and the Universe

He said;
his arm flowing outward;

'The problem of the 21st Century
is the Indefinite Pronoun.

We're all everyone and no one
indefinite;
pronoun, but not a noun
the universal vagueness
of time, meaning, and identity,

rather like the cloud of electrons
flying around the nucleus of the atom
there and not there;
but capable of being anywhere
or in two places at the same time;
holding many beliefs constantly shifting,
feeling fervently one thing and its opposites
the next minute,

Poet-Me

I sat me down
my Poet Me
for discipline's tight regime,
hollowing out clear intent
for syntax, line breaks and such.

Meter, Rhyme and Rhythm too
joined the group.

We discussed Constructs
and Literati.

'Now, I am in charge here' Poet said.
'everyone of you has a role.

At my pen
you'll line up
while I align your countenances.

Every poem like an orchestra,
