Old Flower

She is a flower given
in rainy hours
in her is ocean-ness

moving soft winds before her;
floating lightly
shiny new soul blooming

untouched by sentiments darkly
all experience her delight
having never known mean love
only love requited.

Joy seldom comes to the stapled heart
her's has never been.

I am older than she
aged older than my years
mangled innocence
unrequited

A Crooked Stile

Press me down to common ground

I’ll not fear or protest;

carry me to highest heights

give me wings to fly;

hold my hand against the tempest

as I cling to my hearts mast,

I'll not be blown away.

Lift my face to sunny sun

twinkle in my eye;

Open to the Sky

'I could open to the sky' she said
have all my cautions fall away
in the wily wind;
give in to impulse drive
and let life fall
all around
and call this fate.

I could simply deny myself
nothing
and accept everything;
be the cork
on the party scene;
some do that.

I could put myself in life's way
and hope that something happens to me;
that's what I think some people do.

I could stay here and stagnate

Paper Thin

There could be this kiss between us
you and I too
would want it to be memorable
but how to make it so
or predict soft lip outcomes?

I would want the feel of you against me
and you?
I would want deep ocean eyes
to skinny dip in
and you?

It is the giving I crave
the willingness
and the lostness of you

within me
and within you.

Perhaps you would like to feel

The Rose's Soul

Not every Rose's Thorn
draws blood;
some Loves prick the very soul;
yours did mine;
being more intimate
because of who I am
or was
is now
neither my self
nor thorned bloody rose
destined not to be
myself
without my once treasured
now revealed to be no longer
Individuality-
we sometimes learn
in our latter age
is much overrated.

Those who cling

Bore me

'I might be dead' she said
'or just maybe not fully alive
I hate this in-between state.'
.
'Perhaps you are neither; I said
'perhaps you are just bored unto a numbness that feels like death.
Numb makes you want to react so you
overcompensate with a strained vivaciousness.'

'Yes that is it because' she said 'I became 'perky' and outgoing
which was just the opposite of what I actually felt
but I was very good at it and at times I would forget.
and think that 'perky' was me.
That face would leave me especially at night
and I would begin to doubt again as to my true state,
dead, alive or in between.

'So what do you think is the thing to do? ' I said

'Well dead and perky is not something I now see is sustainable.

Love and Its Desserts

There was before me
the carefully prepared plate
the feast of feasts
and she said
'this is my love.'

The dessert was
jubilant
and she took
from the oven
pie after pie
and I ate.

But how to say
that Love's Substitute
is not the meal I eat
nor are the biscuits
the Love I crave
even tho it's the
love she's got to give.

A Roving Band Of Lovers

They were a Roving Band of Lovers
kissing hands
smiling and winking.

They bowed to old ladies on the streets
over-tipped waiters
gave young girls flowers
for no reason.

They never cried;
stood on tip-toe
and invited people
to see Infinity;
did dances in the streets
and little plays in the subways;

carried around little cookie trays
made music with harmonicas.

They were a Little Band of Roving Lovers

Getting A Horse

So here I am
15 and over weight
not especially pretty
but not bad;
but invisible
and I hide in gym
and the looks I get
keep me in my place.

I try for friends
but the other outcasts
like me
don't seem to want to
draw attention;
can't talk to anyone,
teachers think I'm dull
I talk to my pillow
only my cat understands me

And, of course,

Dreaming

You were high above me
popular;
your family had money.

The girls
chased you
brazenly,

but I thought
just maybe
your eye
caught mine
but could not risk
being wrong
could not face Risk's Rejection.

Maybe it is something
I am imagining..

But it has become my dream;
