Better in this Lonliness

I'll not ever know
why your heart turned;
why that door closed.

I'll not know if it was cruelty
or my own frailties.

But even if I knew
it was you
then
how could I reform
you?

Could I convince you that
you and I were best
and that she was
at best
manipulative
and in time
would

A Seduction: Perfumed Lanes

Walking through
my fathers' garden
lilacs in bloom
the walk-way
perfumed;
drugged
my senses.

I surrendered
as you
spoke
of plans and dreams;
I felt content
to be there doing
nothing but being there
talking with and listening to you.

The sound of your voice
is soothing to me.

Sucummbing

Today I lost my allure;

it left me on 42 avenue

where I stood

my two breasts i surmised

had sucummbed another inch to gravity

and this had been noticed by the hard hats

who measure such things.

and the lines that lined my face advanced another millimeter

now visible for them to see

where such sensiitivity exists

A Safe Harbor

The rolling tan hills
slope away gently
tracing a certain soft patina
in the dusty night;
framed by
black, straight
long stemmed flowers
languid against
my back-dropp window;
they look like night time sun-risings,

against a curved topography
which seems to move up
and down slowly
in the invisible summer breeze;

framed
are two dark pools
which glitter in subdued light.

The Poets March

The Poets all march to the edge-
some perching
at the abyss of Screaming Desire;
Hearts exploding
Love reeling;

say not to those that Poet
that Desire is loathing
for those that believe this
back away
while we others
leap over Faith's abyss
smiling.

The Poets all march to the edge
of Faith
and blind we do not see
beyond the edge
we so desire
but Courage

Ocean Breakers

She went to water;
she always did.

The heaving ocean
matched her heavy breathing;

it was a Ocean of Tears
like hers.

The swells crash
against the shore
relentlessly;
life was relentless too.

The foam;

Anger in the Water that day.

She went to water
she always did,

Walking Two

You walk me down the same path each time

showing me that other world you inhabit
a thousand sights and sounds
and smells

I am unaware of.

You look at me with wet eyes
eager to share your various finds
and the crisp morning air

aligns with my need to rise
for the tour

you want to take me on.

You're my nature guide

and I

Album Faces

In my photo album
languish years

compressed and angled
with four corners
where youth and age mix;

mostly smiles regaling
good times frozen
baby eyes and faces;

teen years
and marriages;
friends severed
by divorces;

yellowed senior
grannies
and rigidly posed Great Grannies
all in the same book

My Pipes Are Still: The Poets Lament

I have given what I knew to give
placed my 'x' on the written page
yet the written words there have proven to be incomprensible
to those I had written them for.

I place fruit on the table
for mouths which sour
and see them brown-spot and fade;

I lift my heart strings
allow my music to sing
and yet receive back only half notes
but I none the less complete my songs
in my own head; lay them out allowing their blood to let.

Mark my pages lonelier than they should be
for consummation and soul-singing is sometimes that goal which eludes
and the fault lies with no one, except blind chance and cringing solitude.

Flushed

In my garden gambol
green beetles
by twos and threes,

who sing to High Tulips
blushing pink
in harmonies.

Flushed,
adoration-framed,
they rainbow through
emotions gained
from beetle songs
choir sung.

I part the foliage clef
to observe what enchantment deft
musical beetles pant
to flowered plants
swaying in the green.
