It's like Marmite
You either love it or hate it
it is probably a disease
it can put you on cloud nine
but it can bring you to your knees.
Only those who love the beautiful game
will understand what I am on about
but it's only a silly football match
the unconverted will often shout.
But we never listen to them
they just haven't got a clue
there too busy spending their time
at the shopping centre or at a local zoo.
Thre's more to life than football
the wife or girlfriend may say
what like watching silly Big Brother
or soap operas day after day after day?
So please you non believers
you just leave our passion be
and though my team has aged me
you won't stop me following Cov City F.C.

A Wolf in Sheeps Clothing
There are all sorts of people
some come across as very shy
but when you get to know them
you discover they're cunning and sly.
There are those who are friendly
who greet you with a smile
but secretly they despise you
and talk about you all the while.
There are folk you have known
who say they will keep in touch
but you never ever hear from them
as really they didn't like you much.
People come into our lives constantly
and some stay friends for life
but there will be some who hate you
and in your back they would stick a knife.
So beware of certain people
because you can meet them anywhere
they may at first appear harmless
but can turn your life into a living nightmare!

I need my football fix
I hate it when the season's over
because football is a drug to me
I have to go cold turkey
and my mind is all at sea.
I can't stand summer sports
like Tennis, Golf, and Cricket,
I've no interest in Wimbledon
and which bowler has taken a wicket.
The months just drag on by
because I need my football fix
so I lie on a beach somewhere
and dream about my team scoring six.
The shrink said I'm a hopeless case
one of the worse cases he's ever seen
he said I was the only patient he'd had
who lied on the couch reading a soccer magazine.
But all I want is next season to hurry up
so I can stop being bored and fed up
then I can go and watch my team
win every game and the F.A.Cup!

It's raining again
what a difference from the other week
when we were basking in hot sunshine
people were laying down on beaches
enjoying barbecues and bottles of wine.
But now all it does is pour with rain
so instead of flip flops it's wellies
people are walking about with umbrellas
or staying indoors glued to their telly's.
Early summer tans are slowly fading away
as the heating gets turned back on again
families who decided to holiday in England
now wish they'd booked to go away to Spain.
But the British weather is so unpredictable
and it has a habit of making us look like a fool
because we go out dressed like we're in Barbados
then get a good soaking and we forgot to pack a cagoule!

Not today but maybe tomorrow?
I want to climb Mount Everest
hang-glide over the Rockies
swim alongside Killer Whales
walk from Pole to Pole.
I want to go deep sea diving
discover shipwrecks in the oceans
go down the Angel Falls in a barrel
have a wrestle with a big bear.
I want to go fast in a Toboggan
chop down trees in a Canadian forest
soar high over a desert in a hot-air-balloon
be an Olympic downhill skiing champion.
I want to be an Astronaut in outer space
or tame Lions in a travelling circus
discover a long lost tribe in a jungle
have an island named after me.
I want to cycle around the world
and be a pilot of a powerful jet
I really want to do all these things
but I really don't feel up to it just yet!

Gutted
Now where did I put it
it must be here somewhere
could it be down the sofa
or the back of that big chair?
Maybe it slipped out of my jeans
when I was tending the flowerbed
I know I'll look around the garden
but did I leave it in the shed?
I've looked all over the place
searched every cupboard and drawer
I hope the dog hasn't chewed it up
he'll eat anything that's left on the floor.
EUREKA! I've found my Euro millions ticket
And I'm so happy and glad that I did
because I've got all of the winning numbers
I've won twenty million quid!
So why then aren't I really happy
and jumping about in a wild and crazy state?
well I did have all the correct numbers
but alas, it was for the wrong bloody date!

My first true love is still here
I've a confession to make
I've loved you for all this time
from the very first moment
I became aware of you.
I was only a young boy
but age never meant a thing
even when my mother said
nothing good will come of it.
Luckily Dad was fond of you too
said take no notice of mum
she'll come round in the end
but my mind was made up.
Here I am a middle aged man
and still in love with you
yes we've had our ups and downs
with lot's of tears along the way.
But nothing has come between us
girlfriends have come and gone
but not you as your still here
together we've survived it all.

The three day Rock concert
Pitch your tent in the rain
put money and phone in pockets
hope no thieves around
remember the last time?
Make way to the beer tent
then have a good walk about
your favourite band will be on soon.
Try and get down to the front
but you end up crushed in the middle
by now your covered in mud.
Still you don't care because
you've had a good drink
and the music is loud and great.
Everyone is jumping and moving
to the heavy metal thump thump
your having a fantastic time.
You do this for three days
then you pack up your tent
your worn out and tired
but you'll be back next year.

A poem for Football lovers
Football can make you cry
it can also bring you joy
I've played and watched it
as a man and a small boy.
Football has great players
like the one and only Messi
the Argentinian is a genius
I wished he played for Coventry.
Football is the favourite sport
no other game comes anywhere near
in the U.K.it's the number one pastime
just beating fishing and drinking beer.
Football though can be an addiction
it can be on your mind all of the day
your thinking about goals, shots, and saves,
and even talking about it to God when you pray.
So long may Football be played on our planet
even though it has trouble along the way
but just think if there was no Football at all
us fans would have nothing to do on a Saturday!

Youths Go On the Rampage!
Trouble on our city streets
as youths go berserk
is it about unemployment
because there's no work?
No, it's nothing to do with that
they just like to cause fear
and to rob some new trainers
because Nike's are far too dear.
There tough in their gangs
as they smash and loot
because they know the police
won't dare attack or shoot.
Bring back national service
the older generation all shout
because when they were that age
the coppers could give you a clout.
So the shopkeepers are nervous
waiting for the next hoodie attack
because they've heard on the radio
the hoodlums will definetly be back.
