Roll over Beethoven

She loves her classical music does Val
as Tchaikovsky helps her to unwind
then again so does Handel as well
and a bit of Stravinsky she doesn't mind.
She's in heaven listening to Bach
and dreamland to the sounds of Debussy
Mendelssohn sends her all of a quiver
but Borodin too so she's not that fussy.
Beethoven is another favourite though
but Ravel's Bolero she reckons is tops
she dances around her house when it's on
and even when she's down at the shops.
But she likes the volume up really high
especially when it's Mozart or Liszt
but this upsets her next door neighbour
who bangs on the wall with his fist.
So the next time you hear loud classical music
that'll probably be coming from Val Dohrens house
but don't worry she'll be doing her housework
while waltzing about to the sounds of Strauss!

The Sound of Music

Everyone likes music
and has a favourite song
a tune to brighten the mood
when the day has been long.
Some people like Classical
Beethoven chills them out
whilst others like their Rock
so they can shake their heads about.
A record may bring back memories
it can bring a smile to the face
the music can return you to the past
for a while your back in that place.
Words of a song can mean something
as if they were written just for you
but while they can make you feel happy
others can turn your mood sad and blue.
There's music to lift the spirits
and sounds to bring you down
some folk get turned on by Heavy Metal
but some love to listen to Tamla Motown.

Heaven and Hell

It's not easy being happy all the time
walking about with a smile on your face
when all you see on the telly is misery
and terrorists wanting to wipe out the human race.
But nobody likes a miserable so and so
who sees everything in Grey and Black
we like to be in company that's cheerful
who like a good laugh and the crack.
When someone tries to ruin your day
with their depressing and moody talk
the best way to deal with them I find
is make an excuse and then go for a walk.
Then again the person with the cheesy grin
who's always full of the joys of Spring
can really get on your nerves
and who's neck you'd love to wring.
So I guess it's best to be somewhere in between
be a bit happy but a bit miserable as well
because let's be truthfully honest here
daily life can be a mixture of Heaven and Hell!

It's not even Summer yet

Can't quite believe the weather
it's gone from wet to hot and sunny
so there's no need to go away on holiday
just stay at home and save your money.
Folk are walking about half naked
as if they're on a beach in St.Tropez
but they forget that this is England
so it could rain tomorrow or even today.
But people make the best of it now
so out come the shorts and flip flops
and women can't wait to show off their figures
even if they're only popping down to the shops.
But just when we're getting used to it
and we've got ourselves a nice decent tan
down comes the rain with a vengeance
so your stuck for days inside your tent or caravan.
But don't you just love the British weather
when you can get all four seasons in one day
but hang on a minute it's not even Summer yet
as we are only in the merry month of May!

Football crazy Football Mad

That's all you ever think about
football, football, football,
well that's it now I've had enough
I'm packing my bags and I'm off.
Well what can you do?
she's obviously made up her mind
but what a time to leave me
in the middle of a match on T.V.
How insensitive is that?
she knows it's a massive game
now I've just missed a fantastic goal
then again she's always been selfish.
She has never really forgiven me
for cancelling our honeymoon
but how could I go away
when we had a relegation battle going on?
Can't believe it she's taken the dog
still the second half should be good
and tomorrow me and the lads are going away
if the team wins we get promotion.

You Lied to me

You said we'd always be friends
and you wanted to stay in touch
so why then don't you ever call
is it because you don't care that much?
The address you gave me I reckon you made up
and the phone number I was told was wrong
it was you who said we were soul mates
and our friendship would always be strong.
I knew that you wanted to move away
and you needed a much better life
but I wanted us to be more than friends
in fact I was hoping you'd become my wife.
You said it was fate that brought us together
and a true friendship would never ever die
but since that day you waved and drove away
I haven't received a single call from you, why?
But wherever you are I hope you are happy
because I remember the day you went you cried
you said a lot of things to me as you left
but now I know you didn't mean them, so you lied.

Home sweet Home

I't's nice to have a home
somewhere to relax
and unwind at the end of a day.
If your homeless and on the street
home can be a cold shop doorway
or even a cardboard box.
But for some home can be a mansion
full of expensive antique furniture
with a full size swimming pool.
Home can be a dingy bed-sit
in a house divided into rooms
all sharing the kitchen and bathroom.
Or a one bedroomed council flat
in a fifteen storey tower block
where the lift is out of order again.
Home can be a in a caravan park
or even in a tent on a camp site
or on a barge or luxury yacht.
But a home is what you make it
full of happy times and fun

Football Hooligans

In the seventies it was madness
Saturday's at football matches
steel toe capped boots
braces and cropped hair.
Hundreds of hooligans
ready to do battle
fighting to take their 'end'
our mob is tougher than yours.
Police trying to stop it all
keeping the hooligans apart
as bottles, bricks, fists, kicks,
rain down in and around the ground.
This was football in the seventies
a dangerous place to be
keep your wits about you
watch where you walk about.
Then it cleaned up it's act
hooligans told to stay away
violence slowly eradicated
behave or face a lengthy ban.

Favourite Word

The magazine is running a competition
it wants to know our favourite word
they say they want to know why
it's the best word you've ever heard?
So it got me thinking really hard
what word fills me with delight?
could it be a word linked to Halloween
like terror, spooky, demonic, or fright?
But I like a word that just sounds funny
something like snuffle, truffle, or ruffle,
but I love a word I heard when I was young
and it still makes me smile and it is Kerfuffle
My mother said the neighbour's are at it again
sounds like there having a row or a scuffle,
and my dad would just laugh and say to us.
'take no notice it's only a bit of a Kerfuffle.'
So that's my favourite word I reckon
maybe because I first heard it when I was young?
so I'm going to say it more often to people
as Kerfuffle just slips of the tongue!

Happy Birthday to the Bard

Happy Birthday Mr Shakespeare
all power to your quill and ink
your works are still as powerful today
as when you were alive and in the Pink.
You gave us the lovers Romeo and Juliet
Hamlet, Macbeth, The Taming of the Shrew,
characters like Lysander, Claudius,
King Lear, and Henry the fifth part Two.
You wrote about murder and death,
treachery, war, and hideous lives,
but you also liked to make us laugh
with tales about all those merry wives.
You even had your own language and words
which is still giving your fans lots of pleasure
your plays are known all around the World
people just love The Tempest and Measure for Measure.
So happy Birthday to you William Shakespeare
even though I've found your work heavy and hard
but there's no doubt you were a literary genius
and that's why they call you our number one Bard.
