In The Solitude Of Prayer
In the solitude of prayer
deep
Lost in moments in between weep
and sleep
In the solitude of prayer
Lonliness finds a rest
Survived another test
Brings out our best
In the solitude of prayer
With nobody there
Except those far away
Reminded of their distant care
In the solitude of prayer
You pray for their smile
For their personal trial
Silently, all the while

Another Sad Story...Another Broken Heart
She once cared so much
If I am to belive the words she wrote
But she only cared while it suited her
And when I began to care
I felt compassion for her
And I treated her the only way I could
with honesty
But honesty was too harsh
She thought I was not on her side
She miscalculated again
A hair-trigger defense mechanism
I felt her hurt
But I despised it
Because all about her was false
except for the self loathing....that was honest
and honest too was this:
Her act of caring
but her inability to care for anyone
But herself
In parting I felt her private hell

Irony Of Me
I can fix a flat tire
I can fix a bike
I can splice a wire
I can drive a spike
I can tune a car
or plaster a wall
I can weld a metal bar
can cut a tree and watch it fall
I can install a floor of tile
I can sharpen a blade
I can make little chidren smile
or make a golf ball fade
I can do most anything
But I can't mend my heart
It's lonely and abandoned
and broken apart

Guitar In A Stand
My guitar sits in a stand
rosewood neck
and maple bridge
chrome pegs
and stainless steel frets
six steel & brass strings
silent now
and no songs
for my fingers she longs
without regrets
upon her strings
a part of my heart
but she gives feelings in me wings
But there she sits silently
just an inanimate thing
that comes to life somehow
when I feel alone
and overfilled with the sadness

You're Not The Only One Feeling Sad Tonight
You're not the only one feeling sad tonight
There are others laying low
keeping out of sight
taking their last breaths
Hanging on to threads for dear life
Dealing with abusiveness
Cutting themselves up with a knife
Your're not the only one feeling sad tonight
someone else just turned off their light
someone somewhere is sobbing and crying
someone else is struggling or dying
someone somewhere just quit trying
Somwhere someone just OD'd in their bed
Someone else just dropped dead
You're not the only one feeling sad tonight
Somewhere someone just slammed a door
Gave up on love, just couldn't take it anymore
Somewhere someone just settled a score
Somewhere someone was punched to the floor
Somewhere someone rotted to the core

Butterfly, You Fly So Softly
Little butterfly
You fly so softly
You flutter your wings twice
In the blink of an eye
And catch a nuance of the Spring breeze
You float up, the air tilts you
I see your beauty as you fly near
Butterfly, you fly so softly
you make my heart skip a beat
and then it settlles down
and I feel blessed with serenity
Butterfly, you fly so softly
I fall in love with you a thousand times
Then you smile at me
With your perfect pearly smile
and I wish I could change shape
and fly by your side
Butterfly, you fly so softly
I imagine making love
And know I would not fall out of love

A Beautiful Heart
Beautiful Girl
Beautiful Heart
The two don't always go together
Neither, necessarily apart
A beautiful girl
You might come across every day
and you might feel an attraction
We're wired that way
But in time you know
what others eventually learn
It's a beautiful heart
that's better to earn
Because beauty only goes so far
and is skin deep
But a beautiful heart
is forever to keep

Little Butterfly (For Helen)
Little butterfly
You fly so softly
You flutter your wings twice
In the blink of an eye
And catch a nuance of the Summer breeze
Carrying you from the colts in the meadow
To your favorite Dogwood trees
You float up, the air tilts you
I admire your beauty as you fly near
Butterfly, you fly so softly
when you watch the children smile and play
You make my heart skip a beat
and then it settles down
and I feel blessed with serenity
With such unearthly grace and dignity
Butterfly, you fly so softly
I fall in love with you a thousand times
Then you smile at me
With your perfect pearly smile
and I wish I could change shape

A Crazy Dream
Is it crazy
as a fantasy
To have you leave your job
and family
and leave it all behind
and run to me
Is it crazy
to suddenly dream
without a thought as to why
to imagine happiness
holding hands with you
as we look upon the sky
Is it crazy
to imagine buying an old inn
no matter what shape its in
Somewhere in the mountains of New England
To fix it up as neat as a pin
As a bed and breakfast and let boaders in
