But Still...

before you know
i'll be gone from this world
and so from your world too
like a whiff of smoke
do i wish to dissolve
into the elements never to return
but where do i go?
the thought does haunt me
several times as i keep awake
into an empty night...
down down there i hear
hey, haven't you done that
many a time by now?
you've known the other day
death and life
is of seventy two cycles
why brood over your next destination
you had been there before
in the solitude of a vacant night
the voice booms and rings...

All In The Day...

...and we sat
facing each other
all set to share
a few words between us
the words that remained unuttered
flew from the finger tips
and settled on each other's skin
two cups of coffee lie there
a layer of cream clutching the insides
glances avoided we sat there
facing each other till a tiny bird
landed on the window sill
caused my neck turn
the bird flew away and now
my neck turned again to you

my eyes for no specific reason
rested on your lips that failed
to come together for a word at least
now appeared strangely expressive

Disappointment

last night a rape of
disappointment ravaged me
its ugly hands invaded my
body and spirit
leaving scars on the tender
and fair skin of my conscience
i curled into a ball of pain
nursing bleeding lips
and acidic skin
tears trickling down the closed eyes
dissolved into the smears
of hymen- blood and semen
dotting the sheets…

from expectation to
disappointment to
sorrow is the trajectory,
spoke the buddha’s voice
so far lying buried deep within
not attempting to dry my tears

When The Clouds Chose To Drift...

the sky was overcast
and any moment
it may unleash
needles of rain drops
we were on a recliner
in that circular verandah
wiping the sweat off the brow
for some reason
the clouds decided to
drift with the wind
and the sky turned
plain and forlorn
i casually looked into your eyes
and saw the reflection of the
thick dark clouds floating on
the skies of the whites of your eyes
ready to burst...

no, i didn't ask you the reason
but held your hand firm

Quo Vadis?

we coo-ed with koels
we chirped with birds
we buzzed with bees
we bloosomed with buds
we ate ripened fruit fell on earth
we collected flowers that trees discarded
we waited for buds to express themselves
we ate under open sky
we slept under star-lit sky
we took siestas under the trees
we took shelter under giant green canopies
we filled our nostrils with mixture of damp earth, foliage and flowers

we once weathered with seasons
we are now cut off from seasons
we are now in a virtual world
we are now condemned to a limited living

The Spell You Cast...

... and when the invisible
and the indivisible forces
of all the universe connived
to pull me into your spell
least did i think the spell cast
would alter everything
that concerns me including my self
and when i sat in the silent
terrain of my being last evening
least did i expect the planets to
come down to whisper into my ears
the tidings you've conveyed...
touched by you, they looked
resplendent on an otherwise
pale lonely sky...

they sang me a lullaby
in a chorus that i slip into
a sleep sweetly cuddled
in your arms...

At A Busy Junction

the antics were meant to
draw the attention of busy
office-goers though involved risk
what with number of vehicles
stranded at the signals
the lean body, some seven years
in all dressed in dirty tatters
had an iron ring taking rounds
on the cheerful bones
he somersaulted in the narrow space
between two two-wheelers in
impatient urgency beside a car
the narrow space wasn't a
bother for the little boy
carefully watched over
by a pair of eyes from far

just when there's green
he bagan to run amuck
his hands stretched out

A Breathing Fantasy

i create
a quiet midnight hour
around me all the time
and migrate myself
into a world of solitude...
where i feel your breath
down my neck tickling
myriad memories of your touch
sometimes in the real wee hours
i'm left all by myself
contemplating this notion of love
whether it's a fantasy i created
to survive myself in a barren piece
cut off from imagination
and the ability to dream
no, no, no...
screams my voice for
the oft repeated voice alone knows
the messages of love it carried
to you across the cruel

On Seeing You...

On Seeing You...

The body that so far felt
Like a hollow shell
Thrown on the beach
By a vagrant child
The body that so far felt
Like an empty piece of severed bamboo
Fallen on an untread forest path
No longer felt hollow or empty
The shell vibrated with the roar of the sea
The bamboo set ripples of mystic music on the waves

Strangely enough, even the half-moon
Sprayed brightness on the dark niches
Your joy resonated in my heart
Sealing all the crevices and pushed the body
Towards the one loved…

Ah, the stuff dreams are made of

A Surreal Moment

in the midnight hours
my soul abruptly taps
me on my cheek
into wakefulness
all around me
faint shadows of
increasing complexities
and absurdities grow
larger than life and
present a shadow play
on the surrounding blank walls

i let my mind footloose
how many flyovers
to ease the congestion!

my feet inadvertantly
lead me into the southwest balcony
from where i see
the stars losing their shine
