Self
It has been telling me
Many a tale
Of woe and joy
In infancy
I cried.I smiled
At the tragic tales
At the happy ones
They thought I was in pain
They thought I was smiling at them!
As I grew up, it remained
My companion
An unfailing friend
Reliable
Trustworthy
My bedrock; my rock support
My pole-star

For Him I Know Not: Ix
last night by the sea
i held my tears of longing
from falling into the oblivion
the wind was still
and bubbles of perspiration
stood erect on my
sticky epidermis
how much i hoped that
the capricious moon that once
caressed us together would
pull me into her enchanting embrace
to cool my heart and skin pining
at least for one fleeting moment
down below the sea roared
in typical rhythm of a typical
moonlit night and the hungry roar
and the steady ebb and tide
held the moon to ransome
on a clear cloudless sky...

A Monsoon Precursor
till then, the earth
was choked in
sweltering heat
from nowhere
gathered swirls
of wind in a wink
and blew away light
thick black clouds
descended with the
darkness that so far
hid behind light
the clouds reached
the earth in thunderous
urgency of a lover home
after long wanderings
between flashes of light
the thick clouds rolled
down to make love
to earth in total darkness
in a flash i saw

Travails Of Survival
his skin exudes
the native perfumes
his heart is filled with
native tunes
from village to
town to metro
did he migrate
always drawing the
scents and tunes
for his sustenance
stranger he is in the metro
breathes his lungful once
amidst the familiar environs
moving under the known skyscape
a nowhere man in the metro
he is himself back at the village
survival calls him
survival displaces him
this nowhere man is

An Experience, Surreal
my footprints on
path of ash followed me
into the womb of that
mysterious abode
before a perplexed gaze
there appeared two naked
ash-smeared bodies-
matted hair let loose
like directionless waves
they held a strident each
as if by a touch of magic
the two unified as one
lo, into a phallus of ash
occupying and expanding
into all the visible universe
i remained a witness to
my body, dissolving into
the ash bit by bit...

You, Clouds and I
Self stood apart
It stood witness
To an unusual union
The clouds
Didn't really move
We did!
A sudden wave
Of shyness overwhelmed
I hid behind a cloud!
I didn't know
You're there much before
I reached!
Some chuckle heard
From somewhere seeing us
Caught by each other!

Labyrinth
the uneven rhythm of silence
as night pulls the living into
its patchy blanket falls heavy
on the heart’s ears…
the sound of sound sleep
breathes heavier on the
jagged walls of the night
echoing on the abandoned skin
the abandoned echo fills
the precincts of the streets
the irregular rhythm throngs
the foot-paths of the night
once in a way a baton
proves its power
once in a way
blazing lights stop by…

A Poem that Whispered its Longings
Early this morning
As usual I went on a stroll
Where whispering sands
By the soft flowing sea
Breathe sweet-nothings
Into my longing heart
The sails on the calm sea
Swayed to the gentle breeze
And the waves that seem to share
A tenderly spoken secret about you
With one another came in hurry
To the shore as if to share
The secret with me
No, they didn’t divulge!
The waves went on teasing me
The limitless sky sprawled endlessly
And the sails fluttered
Like routine butterfly wings
With little concern to the heart

SURrender
Surrender either to human
Or to the spirit higher is
Wrought with dangers lurking
At every step taken—
Self is constantly tested
By ‘self’ with unforeseen blows
Hitting hard from the most unexpected
To love the spirit unknown
Or the spirit known is
A constant flux and in fluidity
The ever dynamic relationship
Adding to the height in millimeters
Love is a miserable experience, you may say
But isn’t it equally or more
Miserable not to love and be loved?
‘Growth’ may be exciting
But the process is painful!
