Indira Babbellapati

Aaditya Hridayam

On that early winter morning
The sun and I wiggled our way
Cutting through the placenta
To touch the earth to begin
Yet another play of maya

In that hazy half darkness
The thoughts of a life lived
Rushed across the by-lanes
Of unfathomable memory

Where were you?
Where are you?
I try in vain resurrecting
The faded memory

How it eludes me on this earth...!

In my tears of joy and sorrow
I offer the sun born with me

A Poem of Love and Longing

A thousand moonlights
Bloom within
A thousand infant suns
Caress within
A thousand springs
Shower within
Just at a passing thought
Of you and for you
The moon on your terrace
On your after dinner moon-walk
The delicate sun rays on your skin
At your morning walk
The spring gardens you conceal
Behind a private wall
Are my buddies connecting
You and me in a
Thousand blooming orchards:
One half soaked in
A thousand moonlights
The other stirring

From the biography of an unknown woman: IX

One fine morning
While negotiating
The snow clad peaks
She found herself
Surrounded by a
Thick snow fall from
All directions…
She sits there patiently
At the mercy of the mountains
Struggling for breath
And in imagined warmth…

‘The snow will disappear
The sun will appear
Leave not your faith
Abandon not your prayer…’
So spoke her master’s voice

In dogged perseverance
She still sits there

As the wind caresses me through the w indow...

Delighted
The hoarse voiced crows
Caw caw as a veil of grey-black
Stealthily spreads on hills and the sea
Surprisingly the cawing sounds music
To the dry ears longing to hear
The tip tap of raindrops on the earth
The roar of thunder is music pr excellence
As the heart cocks its ears to absorb
Each and every nuance
The dragon flies dance in maniac rhythm
Their wings pitted against the erratic winds

Somewhere within my niche
Something stirs to life…

The Trench

It was once assumed
We stood at the same spot
By and by
The earth caved in
Surreptitiously
And there emerged
A widening trench

We now stand
A trench apart
The trench patiently gathers
All the emotions slipped into it
In the nights it sings
To wake me up
The open space echoes
With the ballads sung
To bring a smile or two
On my damp cheeks…

Wipes away my cheek

Explorations: I

Within me
I carry another self
An invisible twin
Who constantly confused me
When I was still a child

One summer noon
When the town seemed
Seated on a pyre
And damp bedspreads
Dripped water around
Fiery windows
I was forced to
Commit homicide...

Blood trickled
Down my tender thighs...

In the final act
Of drawing curtains

Come...

can your fingers
hear the throb behind
each pulsating capillary
as it echoes through
this winter morning?

can your skin
absorb the perfume
this skin exudes
filling the winter's
morning air?

see, how this
desire laden skin sprouts
zillion goose-pimples
as the mild morning breeze
blended with a nascent sun
laden with thoughts of you
brushes against...

Star Light Star Bright

'star light star bright'
eons passed by
into earth's womb
sunk into oceans
diluted into galaxies
and you're the same
'twinkle twinkle
little star...'
when the ancient me
roamed the length and breadth
of the expanding space
and intriguing earth
you were the one guiding me
now with not much wonder
left in life
earth bound woes
never allowing a gaze
'spent and tired'
night after night
i dissolve into

Mark This, Will You?

somehow
heart always appears
as foolish one to me
how many follies it
commits and how
many more wounds
and hurts it absorbs!

have you ever seen
a heart behaving sane
learning from the experience?
how it always forces
an innocent smile on your lips!
how helpless it sheds
tears in its privacy!

does it ever learn
from at least one tear shed
or a smile forced upon the lips?

Under A Starry Sky

the perennial darkness
that surrounds me
doesn't allow me to discernl
day from night
i sit in my southwest balcony
edging on such a night
of myriad stars insulating me
from the earthly existence
and when stars descend
to brush past my cheek
i come back to life with a start
thinking you broke all the cruel
barriers to come to me to
plant a tender kiss on my
forlorn cheek on a night as this

now night wraps me
in a blanket of
perpetaul passion
