A Poem of Raindrops and You!

On this sweltering afternoon
When you knocked at my door
Didn't I accost you
And demanded of you,
'Why didn't you bring any rain? '
As if you were the rain maker
But there're many an instance
When in your arms,
Me and my precincts smelt of rain
How I regaled in the raindrops
Clinging to my skin, reflecting you!

'Hey, don't wipe them away...! '
I told you on those occasions
With the hope of harvesting them
On a sapping afternoon as this...

Godhuli

the melody within
merges with the vibrating notes
flowing from an unknown distance
the entire being and every heart
every capillary of the mother earth
dance an invisible dance

is there need for words
when the whole creation becomes
a single breath inhaling and exhaling
to the rhythm
and the rhythm?

the smells of godhuli
its colours and sights
fed and frolicked
the cows and their herds
mother-birds and children
satiated, hurry homeward
for warmth and rest!

i Don't Know, Somewhere Up There'

what's it that caught my eye?
all around aging stone walls
and innumerable steps to negotiate
i sit midway on a cracked step...
looking up somewhere there
with a fond hope
that you're there, up there
looking up somewhere there
with a streak of fear
of what i should do
if only you come down
to meet me midway...

how do i receive you
with my hands tightly
clasped and hidden within...?

Beyond The Frame

under a just bathed sky
they sat sipping
hot cup of tea
the right head phone
in his ear and the left in hers
the vapours rose
from the two cups
and together blended
into the surrounding vast space
beyond the horizon
the morning raga
filled their capillaries
with a single melody
within the frame
with a clear sky above
they made a perfect
picture post-card
of harmony in every possible angle

beyond the frame

Thinking Of You

On that early winter morning
Wiggling my way
To touch the earth
My thoughts for you
Carried from a world unknown
Rushed across the by-lanes
Of memory I could vaguely touch

Where’re you,
Then and now?

Several moons
From that night
I hang between
Hope and despair

How I long to resurrect
The soul and body
In that life-inducing
Embrace of yours

A Poem In Waiting

When night shrouded me
In that visible darkness
I heard the sun dipping
Down into the sea
The invisible rivers silently flowed
Into their final confluence

In that silence of night
There I heard a melody
Flowing from the moon
Arising out of the sea...

A distant melody it was
From the invisible singer

A strange melody it was
Of despair and hope
Of departures and arrivals
Of sorrows and smiles

Summer Showers

Last night
And the night before
It poured and poured
Wind uprooting the trees
Snapping electric lines too…

I sat
In the darkness
Trying to capture
The straying night
I sat
In the darkness
My skin burning
At the hard hitting raindrops
I sat
In the darkness
Listening to the rain
Tiptoeing into my heart
I sat
In the darkness

From the biography of an unknown woman: IV

Her tears're never understood
But they're her closest companions
She's mostly seen around the sea
The sands and the sea sheltering
Her visible and invisible tears
High tide and low tide she watches
And quicklu sums up that
That's all life is all about
Sometimes she searches
The sands and the sea
If she could retrieve her tears
And if someone caught her tears
She would simply smile and say
'O, it's those sand particles, you see...'

From the biography of an unknown woman: xxxvii

...And she looked back
standing by the shore
in a stark day light
trying to count
the innumerable steps
the sands hid
in her search for love
and for that one moment of
unadulterated passion
where the boundaries of
earth and above get
disolved...

'just like my foot-steps
on these sands!
can i ever trace?
how far i travelled
in search of love...
tough is the path not to think of
travails the self negotiates...! '

Star of Bethlehem

‘Will you come again? ’
I asked you that evening
Your steps moved silently
Towards the door
The setting sun by then
Stealthily entered through
The door ajar
All set to grab you
The floor under my feet
Felt damp
Dusk, gathering its shadows

The question silently repeated
As silently as the stars that
Revealed themselves
On the fading sky

You turned your head
Standing one step
Outside the door
