A Creation of sorts
It was neither
Monsoon nor winter
Yet the air was filled
With the freshness of
The first rain
It wasn’t even
The beginning of winter
And yet some chillness
Drew them closer...
The heart rained
For the first time
The eyes spread the warmth
The body gleaned into the environs
The mild chillness after the rain
And the warmth thereafter
Of a make-believe world
Within the world known(?)

Call Of Desire
this embryonic desire
to surrender myself
at the altar of your passion
to feel the warmth of your breath
that breathes the skin
into a glow
to taste those lips
that determine the course
of our growing passions
set to flood either of us
dislodge me out of this
empty human reason
and put me on a flight
of fancy
no longer can i
resist this call of desire...

Embedded In Silence
in the incessant flow
of silence that surrounds me
you are embedded
the way a delicate melody is
how long do i wait
for this melody to break free
of the silence to fill
my ears...
the whispers i hear behind
those fluttering eye lashes
burden my delicate heart
with a nagging question
'when... again? '
this endless waiting
this heartfelt longing
spreads into every
nook and corner of my
mind and body like
a forset fire...

A Poem Sliding Down the Glass-pane
I look around
And retrieve to
My regular corner
The glass widow
Overlooking the sky
Everyday
Every afternoon
I looked at the baked glass
With its coat of dirt
In expectation
The clear sky
Always giving me
An apologetic glance
Lo, this morning
As the clouds dimmed
The corner, hope revived

Surreal Seasons
all that's been
resurrected in
an untimely spring
now gets buried
in an ever lasting
hasty winter
under a thick blanket
of white snow
people play and frolic on...
all that's been
resurrected in
an untimely spring
now gets displaced
by a cruel west wind
blowing wild and merciless
people struggle against...
i'm left struggling
in a surreal sleep

From Daughter Of Dust
Know this, my love
I'm no perfect
Nor soft as a petal
A woman ordinary
As weary as a nomad
Negotiating rugged terrains
And desert paths
My feet bruised and bleeding
My skin rough and tanned
life left me no dream
But it left a heart
untouched
A heart that can sing
A melody of immense depth
A melody that allays
My fears
My guilt
My shame
My tears

From The Biography Of An Unknown Woman: Xxviii
some feel secure
walking a few steps behind
some feel confident
walking beside
she was amazed to see
those who walked ahead
it always made her feel good
just to walk her stride
matching his, the fingers or
sometimes the shoulders or
any part of those limbs that
moved in rhythm gently brushing
against each other accidentally...
of all
she felt cozy
simply holding hands
when there was none in their vicinity

Ah, Winter!
chill breeze
blowing into
nose eyes n ears
clogged nostrils
watery eyes
choked breathing
ah, but the denuded
trees bearing
bunches of flowers
at each stem
purple orange
white yellows
feasting eyes
through a veil
of watering eyes
colors spraying
perfume forced into
blocked nostrils
chilled winds
pouring dulcet

Cactus Dreams
when i toss in my bed
my own thorns prick me
i dream of a soft bed
every night i retire
when i see my neighbour
in full bloom splashing colors
i look forlorn at my thorns
dreaming of the day i bloom
when tears drip down my
thorny epidermis, i unwittingly
raise my arms to wipe them away
it's then i dream of soft hands
when around me i see
shades offered to the weary
i look at my thorny self in shame
and dream of a rebirth...

From The Banks Of Ganga: V
I open my eyes
Non-light on the Ganga
Breaking into dawn
A la Kubja stood as if waiting
For me to open my eyes
Kabhie Krishna ko dekha?
Chalo meri saath!
Like a mute animal
I follow her into a chamber
Where a marble Krishna welcomed me
How long did I sit in His presence?
Hare Rama hare rama
Rama Rama Hare hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
My own chanting
Reverberating in my ears
There flowed Ganga
