On Emerging From Puddles Of Moonlight
we made a pact-
raka and i
that on every kartik purnima night
he will glow in your balcony
and in mine as well
and stealthily set ablaze
the distance between us
in one sweep
did he swoop down
and left a mark of whisper
behind my ear
on his way back
he carried away
a part of me
and laughed
teasingly at me

Apoplexy
The music stopped
the dance too
Jarring silence
Bruised feet
Fading lights
Unsettled heart
Broken pieces
In tears
Multicoloured heap
In a corner
The music stopped
the dance too
The lips
You painted
Before the show
Had been stuck

Fluidity
a part of me dies
while another part regenerates
a thought dies
while another thought blooms
as i walk by the sea
for every step i put forward
the one behind gets washed off
there're times i earnestly wish
i were dead:
a willing suspension of
all senses i think i perceive
i'm in constant flux of
breath and no breath
thought and no thought...
tell me, my friend
should i pride that

My Funeral Procession
never do i understand
how we come to this earth
with a bang that rings loud
in every heart...
never do i understand
how we leave this earth
so stealthily and silently
cries ringing loud in empty space
but when we die several times
while still living on this earth
none there's to cry
we cry over our own death
silently and stealthily
i, a solitary mourner
walk several times
behind my own coffin...

From The Biography Of An Unknown Woman: Xxii
...and when between
the pressure cooker
and a nagging demand
from the little one to solve
problems of time and distance
she looked askance
not knowing what to say
as the cooker released
its deafening pressure...
'how can i make you understand
you my little one that
time and distance are
filling yet empty...?
and that they're identical twins
yet intriguingly independent...? '
she muttered to herself

The Voice
where from it comes
i know not
sometimes it's as
close as a whisper
at times i hear it
reaching me
piercing through the
innumerable dark layers
that wrap firmly around me
surprisingly, there are times
when i hear it as if
a formless being talks it over
sitting right in front of me
of late i realise
it comes mostly from
within me...

From the biography of an unknown woman: I
And when her heart was
Put on the ‘echo’
They found some inerasable
Footsteps echoing loud…
And when her tears were
Put under a microscope
They did detect fine
Granules of sand…
And when her muffled
Screams were put to a
Voice analyzer, deafening
Sounds of a tsunami were observed…
And when the body and brain
Were scanned, every bit looked
Empty, drained and still
And ready to be discarded

From the Banks of Ganga XII
I've seen
The line erasing
Between the sea and the sky
By the banks of Gangsa
I now see
The deceptive lines
Between the hills and the sky
Diluting…
In my hearts archives
The imaginary lines too
Faded…
The hills looked clouds
And the flickering lights atop
Twinkling stars
I look up in perplexity
The skyline disappeared
The lines you drew around my feet
And yours as well
Have also been washed away

From The Banks Of Ganga: VIII
A hard rock my support
Against the rapid flow
Broken pieces of sun
As Ganga moved at her will
The green hills
Caressing the sky
Ganga caressing the foot of the hills
Sky
Earth
Water
Fire
Air
Blend to blend me
In them
Leave me,
Leave me to the sky!
Leave me,
Leave me to the earth!

Raat ki Raani (Night Queen)
Night-queen sparkled
Amidst fresh green leaves
Perfume in bunches!
Leaves hide
Behind bunches of flowers
Perfumed night!
Tiny petals
Five in numbers in
Perfect symmetry
and by morning
Some offered to earth
In gratitude for
Another day
The night queen
Sprayed an exotic perfume
