Granular Nights

a hit and run kind of
nightmare leaves
an inexplicable emptiness
in the night's tummy
night, an endless stretch
of desert sands and
the sand granules
wait at the corners
to blur my vision
the eyes are already
dehydrated, you see
i spend the night
gathering each granule
in my palm...

they simply escape
through my fingers!

my eyes and palms
remain vacant through

In The Face Of A Tornodo

this pain
raises and falls
in this heaving bosom

this agony
rages and rages
in this fiery heart

this longing
settles and unsettles
this body and spirit

this pain
this agony
this longing
all together hit me
as a tornodo at times
it's then the body goes about
like a dangling empty sack down
the shoulders of a beggar, roaminging in vain,

Compressed, Life In Three-Liners!

Boat struggling
Other bank beckoning
Rudderless!

Waves rise
Clouds quenched
Of thirst

Does sun rise
And sun set, set
Day and night apart?

Starlit or
Starless sky
Deceiving stillness

Earth and sky
Shrink enough
To cuddle in my palms

For Him I Know Not: Xiv

in my dreams and
behind my closed eyes
in my eyes wide open
what else is seen
but a world filled with you
who else is seen
but you...

in that world even you aren't aware of
desires have a different colour
dreams and wishes have a set of different wings
pain and tears taste different
laughter has a different melody
smile has a different flavour
there, it's a life lived on a different plane

From the biography of an unknown woman: XVII

From static waters to
Puddles and ponds to
Streams and canals to
rivers and seas she, this
Unknown woman steers
Her engrossing course
During the course,
She's a ripple
Is at the mercy of waves
Gets pushed to varied depths
Struggled for breath...

If ever you chance to
dive deep into the sea
There you would find her
One among the many species
That naturally survive
At unfathomable depths...

Wrapped in Layers of Oblivion

Who remembers whom

When one goes beyond reach?

Day by day till memory is

Alive and kicking

One talks of the one gone

By an by a mere passing thought

Is all that remains

And later time casts its net

And time wipes away all the traces

Of the loved and the hated alike

On Watching Discovery Channel

this i heard
in the middle of
an unsettling night
a joyful cry of a seal
this i saw
in the middle of
a restive night
a seal licking its
infant in glee
this too i heard
a piercing wail
cracking the feverish night
as the infant breathed
its last...

followed by silence
and grieving eyes
the seal slowly slid back
into the ocean

From the Banks of Ganga: III

Who tends these trees
Thick and green on the hill slopes?

Who for do they bear leaf?
Who for do they feast?

Who created this waterfall
Of unseen origin trickling
From between the trees into the Ganga

Ganga mai
The eternal mother
Creator and destroyer

Ganga mai
Who sustains and devours
Ma, Ganga
I approach you
A child, hungry and forlorn
Longing to retreat into your womb

An Elegy to Heart

Heart within heart
Life within life
A hope?
A mirage?
A foolish whim?

Unfulfilled hopes
Testing idealism
Unnerving anxieties
Dark lonelinesses…

Ah!

When love, scarce
When the known, a caricature
When companionship, a test
When heart shatters in silence
When agony performs a ghost dance

Still…

From the biography of an unknown woman: VIII

Like her appearance
Her language too is
Absolutely plain and simple
Her much weathered heart
She always wears on her sleeve
With no latches or locks
Her smile knows no guile
She knows not moves
Nor counter moves
She moves with those
Who make her move
Passive withdrawal is
Her expression of rebellion
Open rebellion is a distant cry
Stoic resolve, her strength
A spectator forever, she remains…
