Bamboo Tunes and Cat Eyed Girl

In the murmuring evenings,
Cat eyed girl, worn ear-rings,
Stands by bamboo cluster,
Putting down pots of water.

Gilded bamboos sing and sway,
And the tired path becomes gay.
Bamboo hearts throb ever;
Unnamed tunes cease never.

Her bamboo throes resounded
In the gloomy wind unbounded.
Melodies of earth does shower
On her soul that does hover.

Finger tip of the wind brings
Sweet tunes from bamboo strings.
Music enters her inner grove,
Where the forlorn dreams rove.

Woods and Hills at Ponmudi

Seclusion under the foliage
Enchants me amidst wild melody.
Bowing blossoms give me homage
In the afternoon breezy.
Wood is fresh as virgin of village;
It’s chill puts out all embers softly.

Woods and hills are lovely so;
Spend a week there I wish I could.
Farms in woods are pensive so;
Scatter my seeds I wish I could.
In the darkness, fire-worms flash and out go;
Return with thought fruits I wish I could.

Soon all my wishes are milled,
While all clutched the mind under.
Again, down the hill I am pulled
By some gravitation power.
I am always thus pulled
To the same busy corner.

Black Oysters

The rustic women dived,
And collected in the baskets
The black oysters feed
On the breast of muddy sands.

When boiled, the oysters
Opened their doors tightly closed,
To sooth with flesh delicious
The hungry stomachs boors owned.

When the oyster roast,
Served on star tables with spoon,
On to the crest of taste
The rich were taken.

Vitamin ‘E’ oozing
Black oysters
Stimulate pale withered nights
Into red hot throbbing.

A money-order to Tamil Nadu

The software to write and read
Inside his cranium not installed.
Before me, his Tamil heart placed,
Which through Malayalam saw I,
As if in a mist; as pleaded,
The money-order form I filled
For the labourer came state border crossed.
His cell phone had chirped incessantly,
And he borrowed shamelessly.
A Desdemona, or a Lady Macbeth? Mind's vacuum it dropped.

Rupees had brought smile on her lips,
Beyond the sight beheld I,
As the sun appeared
Out of dark clouds.

Mystery Of A Strange Cat

As the mourners had
left, the holy showers
ceased, yet drops of
agony fell on from
the eaves of heart,
then a forlorn crow
fluttered its wet wings.

Waif cats always roamed
in the yard, but
that dark night, a
strange cat prowled to
the portico, its eyes
resembled father’s, who was
cremated hours back.

Moss of home clung
on, but no tongue
in the cat eyes,
(yet silent symbols were

The Pyre

The melody of wedding spell
Echoes in the autumn wind.
Arabian perfumes smell
The bridal suit the cobweb like shaped,
Which the rustic guys have adorned.

Rose has lost its redness,
And turned golden now.
The groom in learnt forgetfulness
Hardly hears Sara’s anklets jingle,
But listens Apanna’s coins jingle.

As the darkness grows fat,
The doom the owl hoots.
Sleep the lamps of night.
Rats rattle the aluminium vessels,
Kept in the broken racks.

Covered the world with a torn blanket,
In a corner, the aged mother curled.

The Boatman Recalls and Repents

Riverside market to markets,
The boat man had propelled with a long pole.
Mat roofed boat,
Full of goods and intrigues,
Gets visible with
High tide of recollections…

Boiling rice on kerosene stove
And a blinking night lamp
Boil and blink again.
Had plucked tender coconuts
From the grove nearby,
When its owner fast asleep.
Had shattered the widow’s solitude
On the bank of Kanoli canal.
Had peeped into the secrecy
Of bathing village damsels…

Moist events after events
The boat man recalls and repents.

Bus-Stop

Late as in yesterdays,
My morn minutes creep,
Tensed under the dew drops,
At country bus-stop.

Boys young dream;
Girls shy droop;
All wait while minds roam,
Till the bus does stop.

Buses come, and buses go,
Never moved the stop as village mine.
Shops two, and the tea stall one are
Breathing through the lungs of rustics.

Sellers, workers, and beggars;
At the bus-stop all roost,
Barter their experiences,
Then flit to their worms fast.

Nest of Love

One night, the rain drizzled,
The thunder trembled window panes,
The lightning fenced,
And the coco in yard its head did lose.

The trunk stood in silence,
As a question mark,
Until the brown birds
Came the top their nest to make.

Sights out my eyes filter:
The birds flutter their wings,
One rounds, and the other
Lowers and cedes,
In the morns wet with vapour,
Until the stir of red open tender beaks.

One even, the west wind
Pushed the trunk down.
Chicks two fell onto the sand,

Venomous Twilight

To pick a fallen coconut panting
On the canal ripples, son skimmed through weeds,
But the creeping death in the secrecy of weeds
Engraved on his calf last hours flashing.

He dared not to tell it his father,
Who lay like an earthworm with sense
Fallen in to the rum bottle, but tense
Son waited the return of coolie mother.

Sun was sinking down in the eyes his,
And simple joys were in the venom freezing.
‘’Please tell them, mother, save me somehow”, longing
Before the death dribbled out of the mouth his.

A black ambulance returns staggering
Along the graveled lane of heart tattered.
Glass vase is fair, once it breaks, shattered
Pieces are poignant and pricking.
