Nearness
Suddenly there's nearness
and then it goes away.
Sometimes you wish it would leave.
Sometimes you wish it would stay.
The nearness I love
I keep in my heart.
The nearness I hate
I let depart.

Laughter
Once she was young
and laughed each day.
Now she is old
and the memories of laughter
are slipping away.
Where are they going
she cries each day?
They've gone to the children
who laugh and play.

Reality
Reality is always there.
It never goes away.
You can deny it.
You might not buy it
but reality doesn't care.
It will not change.
It never will.
Our perception must change
or we just stand still.

The Civil War
What in the world is a Civil War?
There's nothing civil about it.
Is it just a metaphor?
You say one thing and mean another.
You take up sides and kill your brother.
And that my friends
is civil?

You In My Poem
If I could paint a picture
and do it in a poem
I'd use beautiful colors
to brighten up my home.
My words would form a heart
so that I could view
all the beauty I feel you are
and how I picture you.

Young Ones
Young ones, young ones
born to be
enchanted with the earth,
enchanted with the sea
Oh that age could not or would not
change any of this
then anything else that came your way
you would never miss.

Echoes in the Night
Echoes in the lonely night
leave me in the morn.
For then the noisy hours
once again are born.
And all the voices that I hear
I wish would go away.
So the echoes that still me
would also fill my day.

Poets
Poets write
and when the poem is done
they search for words
to write another one.
Poets write
and when the poem is through
they search for thoughts
to write another two.
Such is the life of a poet.

A New Breath
The intake of a new breath
gives me hope.
It hangs in the background
and helps me cope
with everything that's unsure
and undecided.
And as I exhale
I become excited
for life is with me
as I start anew.

God Is Lonely
God is lonely.
He needs a friend.
We forgot about Him
and in the end
He looks and sees
too much hate.
Not too many
at the Pearly Gate
are passing through.
Seems to be
only a few.
God is lonely...
Are you?
