Escape
At times that were sporadic
he became nomadic,
moving around from place to place,
never having to show his face.
This solitary life he lived for now
became his choice which did allow
escape from a world that does not care
which he had searched for everywhere.
A victim of circumstance beyond his control,
he wandered around and became a lost soul.
The psyche of his mind after the war
had destoyed all that he had been before.
Gone was the faith he had in mankind.
Gone was the belief that he could ever find
peace in his heart for humanity.
He lived with the thought that he'd always be
able to kill at the sound of a gun
and so he kept moving, following the sun.

A Two-way Street
Too much water under the bridge?
Too many wrongs to right?
Too much time to try to make up for?
Too many a sleepless night?
You just cram all your misgivings
into a tiny ball
and the floodgates come a pourin'
and you remember it all.
The times when you should have,
the times you held back,
the times when you could have
but pride made you act
as if you would have forever
to change things around,
and as if time would never
take wings from the ground
and escape right from your clutches.

Our Search
If I am allowed I'll write and think
and write and think some more.
For I finally realize now
what I was put here for.
To express to all who will find my words
the love I feel for you.
For you are a creature of God dear reader
and if you only knew
the purpose for our being here
is to grow in understanding,
To give up fear and greediness
so you may start expanding
the love you have for others,
not just your mother, father
sisters and brothers
but for all who are a part of you.
I know it's hard for we've been taught
from when we were very small

The Garden Wall
Can you meet me in the evening
behind the garden wall
where the roses grow with scent so sweet
and the misty air does fall?
I will meet you there with open arms
and there we'll hear the song
that plays for lovers everywhere
with the musk of the rose so strong.
I shall wait quite still for your approach
and let my heart be stirred.
I'll anticipate your arrival
as the night creatures all are heard.
As the frogs do croak and the owl does hoot
they do not understand
how I long to see you once again
and take you by the hand.

Listen, Listen
Listen, listen to the life all around.
You need not put your ear to the ground.
For what springs forth is already here.
It's just repeating year after year.
There's grass growing green mixed with weeds.
There are people doing good and bad deeds.
There are babes being born and some that we mourn
as we listen to life all around.
Listen, listen to the life that's here.
You need not shirk from it. You need not fear.
For the fearful ones will ne'er be content.
They'll shake where they stand with discontent.
There are birds that sing, then eat the worm.
There are people that are well and some with germ.
There are raindrops falling and the echoes of drought
as we listen to life all around.
Listen, listen to the life on earth.
You need not search hard for there is no dearth.

Complacency Kills
So many people know what's wrong
but still are singing the same old song.
They know our government's filled with sin
but they accept the predicament that we're in.
We've become complacent and accept our fate.
They are the eaters. We are the bait.
They gobble up hope with an iron hand
and tell us we have freedom in this land.
Too many lies have filled our ears
over and again all through the years.
We are taxed to death and they still want more.
They need more taxes for another war.
They get richer as they take what we earn.
They take away our dreams and still we yearn
for change to come and light to shine.
That's a fool's way of thinking, a clinging vine

The Sea and Me
Light a lamp inside my home
so I may feel welcome from whence I roam.
For I have been gone for much too long.
I yearn to hear your sad sweet song.
The light of the lamp will say to me
that I have been missed too much by thee.
Such is the life of a man of the sea,
torn between work and his family.
I've missed the smell of food just cooked
and the taste of it and how it looked.
The time I've lost with you by my side
brings me all the tears I must hide.
The sea is my home away from you.
It's what I love. It's what I do.
But when I return from ventures on high
I know where my heart also does lie,

The Mad Hatter's Domain
This mad, mad world is madder than the hatter
that Alice came upon.
Everything is crazy and upside down.
Sanity seems to be gone.
We can't institutionalize all that we find,
even though they've lost their mind.
If we could there'd be some jobs
tending to these incompetent snobs.
Well so much for the above
for none of it's from love.
There is so much more to what we're about.
It's right there in front of us.
We need to seek it out.
The everyday things that don't cost a cent,
like flowers and trees and what is meant
when you love someone and they love you.
We must connect with silence and quiet the noise,
something that most of us never do.
We must hear a song and sing along

Nightmares In The Day
He kept hearing noises
even though they weren't there.
He kept seeing flashes
going off in the air.
He saw them and heard them.
They never seemed to stop.
They made his body shake
from the bottom to the top.
And when it reached the top
he felt a throbbing pain.
He drank. He took pills
but still it did remain.
How long had it been
since he'd been outside?
How long had it been
since his buddies all died?
He could not remember
and what difference would it make?
Every time he saw the scene,

Feelin' Every Touch
If I wake up in the morning
and find that you are gone
will it be because it was
too hard to say goodbye?
Or will you come back home to me again
and tell me you were wrong?
and that you really know
that you're my only guy?
Shall I just sit tight and wait for you
and pray that you'll come back?
or wake up to the truth that hurts so much?
That there's someone new, someone who
is feelin' every touch,
feelin' every touch you gave to me?
If I never see your face again
but keep my self-respect
will I make it back
or will I sit and cry?
Can't you feel the things you've done to me
