4. Don’t Trust Lust
In the heart of each man
Lies a beast
That must remained locked
Not released
For left to roam free
It would harm
The unwary girls
With its charm
The beast that I speak of
Is lust
Whose promises
Women can’t trust
So all I can say
Is beware
For lust without love
Doesn’t care

5. Regal Red
Soft silken sheets
Adorn your bed
Signs of passion
In regal red
Not a crease
Slide right in
Before you know
Your dreams begin
Drift to places
From the past
Little snapshots
Never last
Picture old flames
Sometimes new
Think of me
And I of you

5. Be Warned
Blue lights flashing
People dashing
Squealing brakes
Cars are crashing
Early warnings
None came late
No one noticed
Wouldn’t wait
Frost last night
Then came rain
Froze on top
Then frost again
Blinkered drivers
Half asleep
Saw no warning
Speeds to keep

5. Candy Stripes
My candy stripe
Soft flannelette
A warmer sheet
I’ve not found yet
Wrapped up cosy
Snuggled in
Dreams a plenty
Flooding in
Sleeping soundly
Taking rest
Charging batteries
To their best
All will last
Beyond the dawn
I wake refreshed
As if reborn

5. A Builders Lot
Your basic builder
Belt and braces
Big black boots
With thick black laces
All in denim
They bend down
A flash of flesh
Old ladies frown
A concrete mixer
Orange turning
Scraps of timber
Bonfire burning
Stacks of bricks
Some are breeze
All smoke fags
They all wheeze

3. A Tall Story
I built myself a time machine
And travelled to the past
Where dinosaurs looked hungry
So my visit didn’t last
I travelled to the future
Where food came in a pill
But apple pie with gravy on
Just didn’t fit the bill
I came back home to present day
Where animals are smaller
And if you want an ice-cream
Here food looks so much taller

3. The Savage Beasts
A howling in the wilderness
Straight after shrieks of pain
The hunters are out hunting
And made a kill again
It started very quietly
Their prey were unaware
Sheep were busy grazing
As the wolves came from their lair
They crept around the grazing flock
Each had a taste for blood
Picked out the weakest of them all
And killed it where it stood

3. Beached
I’ve misplaced my little brother
We were playing in the sand
He said that I should cover him
A game he’d clearly planned
Until I went for ice creams
I left my brother to it
On my return there was no sign
Why ever did I do it?
The beach I turned to turmoil
It gave me such a scare
Until I found him fast asleep
In a stripy old deck chair

4. Light-hearted Laughter
Much light-hearted laughter
Fantastical games
Played by the children
With so many names
Shrunken in size
Making dragonfly riders
Climbing up webs
Made by nine legged spiders
Floating in bubbles
Oh what a wheeze
This way and that
Getting caught in a breeze
Some you may think of
Are often much dafter
Than fantastical games
Making light-hearted laughter

4. Christmas Fayre
Searching for holly
It must bear the berry
Along with the mistletoe
Make Christmas merry
Children in mittens
With whellies on toes
Tramp through the snow
With a shiny red nose
Parent out shopping
A chore they all share
Finding the best
Of this year’s Christmas fayre
Yule logs on fires
That crackle and blaze
To warm up your cockles
On cold Christmas days
