Detour
Sometimes we take a detour
off the well trodden path,
it leads us to a place
that we never wanted to go,
but when we get there,
the place isn’t as bad,
as we expected it to be,
and of the detour we think
we should have taken it before.

Love Within Our Soul
The world holds many treasures
of gems, silver and gold,
but the greatest treasure
comes from the love within our soul.
The love that stretches out
to touch everyone we meet
and with its warmth,
it wraps around any troubled heart it sees.

Christmas Part 1 - Christmas Tree
Coloured lights and tinsel.
Hang from almost every branch.
Card with little jingles.
Also make their stance.
An angel stands on the top.
Looks down with peace and good will.
The tree is almost ready now.
To stand by the window sill.

End Of The Game
There are times
when we stand on a stage
and there below the glare
of the footlights below
blinding our eyes
are rows and rows
of empty seats
where no one came to see
our farewell performance
to mark the end of the game.

A Sunday Prayer 08
Oh Lord our father
who watches over us each day,
extend a healing hand
over the sick and infirmed
across every land.
Help them to recover
a little bit each day.
Help them, as they would want to help us.
Be with them daily as they recover.

February Has Returned To Normal
After a week of summer sun
February returned to normal.
Grey skies to the horizon
and a light falling rain.
It is the February
that we all know so well,
and the sunshine
while it lasted
was an unexpected bonus to us all.

A Second Chance
Losing a friend makes you think
of your own fragility.
You must live each and every day
as if it is your last,
as life doesn’t give you a second chance.
Take it while you have it
for you never know
what tomorrow might bring.

Lives On Within Your Memory
Love at some point
graces everyone’s life,
whether it is a partner
or a beloved pet,
but whenever the partner or the pet dies
the love you shared doesn’t die as well,
but lives on within your memory
until you too pass away.

Fertile Ground
Some lives fall on fertile ground
and grow and grow and grow.
Some lives fall on stony ground
and fail to grow at all.
We are like the seeds of flowers
we need a base to grow,
to spread our roots
and watch our seedlings grow.

A Flowing River
Like a flowing river
our life is constantly changing
hitting rough waters
and stony shores.
Then lying in peace
within tranquil pools
and some days we are
tossed hither and tither
then gain our momentum to carry on
just like a flowing river
