The Finding Of The Lost Diary

Here I turn
the pages of the past

& “that” January

of the year
before the year

before last

miraculously
appears

as if it
were

present.

I read
the unusually for you

Her Laughter

Tenderly
I set the trap

with words
to catch

the flight of her
laughter.

Her laughter
flew up into the air

turned into
an enormous bouquet

each petal
a butterfly

until my mind
fluttered with each

Job Security

It’s 1720’s London
& highwaymen are notorious

for fixing up notices
on doors of rich folk’s houses

forbidding them
(on pain of death)

to go out
without

at least
10 guineas & a gold watch

upon their soon to be
held up person.

Anything less & they get it!
Got it?

The Magic Of The Moment

She walks down a street
in Central London
on the sunny side of course
and is dumbfounded by the fact

that it is raining on the other side of the street.
It falls into her mind as if it were a dream
but a dream that's real.

She crosses over and holds out her hand.
Raindrops collect on her palm.
She crosses over again and watches them evaporate
on her outstretched hand.

Spilt Dreams

“Sing to me! ”
you sigh

resting your head
on my lap.

I stroke your hair
as outside

on the Yorkshire Moors

a storm
towers majestically

above our
frail fragile love.

I sing
unevenly inexpertly

BIG HAPPY(for Lyn)

BIG HAPPY

“You make me
so happy! ”

She says.

“Oh, I say! ”
I say.

“It’s such
a big happy

but it’s made up
of all small happies! ”

“The small happy
I can hold
in my hand

Always It Is Snowing In My Heart

Here, it is
snowing

in my heart

great big flakes of remembrance

your laughter
like lace

traced upon
a midnight

fragile as the memory
(that it is)

I hold you still
in this moment

you are

They Went Everywhere Together

Like sky and weather
they went everywhere together

he was rain & she was cloud
he was sun & she was light
she was moon & he was night

like sky & weather
they went everywhere together

he was frost & she was ice
he was fog & she was mist

she was sunrise...he was sunset

he was the sun on a certain morning
she was the sun awakening that morning

like sky & weather

The Eyes Are Not The Same

Her son blossoming
into his dead father’s
face
shocking her
wearing his old man’s coat.
In the mirror
it’s as if

age like an evil spell
has befallen only her
& her dead husband
(dead a decade now)
hasn’t changed at all.
Their wedding photograph
smiles upon the wall.
She calls her son
by his father’s name

who, smiling, turns
& laughs:
