The Headless Friar of Santo Tomas
In my alma mater, Santo Tomas
We had heard of a mysterious tale
Of a gentle, young Spanish friar who was
A sight that turned anyone very pale.
They said he was a handsome novice
And that time, his superior took fancy.
But the events after that were amiss,
When this friar was lost into mystery.
They say he had been beheaded
By civilians the Spanish called 'Indios'
Though no one believed what was said,
And presumed the circumstances - devious.
Through the years the old building there saw
The appearance of a friar without head,
Frightening students in this age and so
There were masses and prayers for this dead.

ASK...You Will Receive
Evasive Wisdom is never known
When Man relies on his conclusions
For human wisdom on its own
Is full of shallow, vague assumptions.
Man, with Pride, will never ask
Content to sum up philisophies.
For Humanity will completely mask
The Truth with empty vagaries.
For truly the Man who asks, receives
As those unlearned fishermen revealed-
Unschooled, but Wisdom God did give
Their Life, in writing, Spirit sealed.
For God does not play hide and seek
His Word is a lamp unto our feet,
He gives grace to the humble and the meek
And the Seeking, He will surely meet.

He fell from the mango tree nearby
In the nest where three others lay
After the rain, their chirping cry
I heard in the morning at break of day.
A few days old they must have been
Eyes still shut, and such tiny wings
Scarcely with feathers on their skin
But they had a strong will to go on living!
I took the nest and kept it inside
Quite safe in a handy fruit basket
From my cats, the birds I tried to hide
As they heard the noisy chirping racket.
Two of the chicks failed to survive
The rains made them wet in the night
But the other two I had kept alive
Named him 'Tweet' and his brother 'Knight'.

Refiner's Fire
Logic has no answers
For such inequality-
Why do good men suffer?
Just a painful reality.
The righteous suffer so,
While the bad remain untouched,
The reasons we don't know
Why we suffer things so much.
To put my mind at ease,
In my prayer He gave me
A glimpse of His masterpiece
A purpose there to see.
'Pain will purify thee
With water of Affliction,
And the bread of Adversity,
Will teach you life's direction.

Real Wealth
You wonder why I do not cry
And why I am not breaking?
These eyes of mine are strangely dry
Right after your departing.
It's not because I do not love you
But I decided it was best,
We clash in all things that you value,
And with money, it was a 'no contest'.
Yes, I took it quite with dignity,
For I weighed the wealth I have,
So I bravely faced reality
And freed myself from my web.
You wonder if there's any anger,
In my heart there is no room for that.
And know you'll be my friend forever,
I care for you no matter what.

Free Will
Created in God's likeness
But distinct because of free will
Men were made for goodness
But some choose evil still.
God did not create abortion,
Terrorism, drugs, perversion
Homosexuality, or rebellion-
Nuclear bombs of destruction!
God did not create the famine
The climate changes and tsunami
These were effects that is seen
By man's greed and idolatry
To blame God for everything
Is to conclude that all men are robots
No brains and are not thinking
An easy option, but surely not.

Cranky Poet
Maybe it is the weather
That makes you grow crankier
Or better yet the hormone
That lets you give an acrid tone.
I do not care if you review,
Please be kind in all you do.
Today maybe your very last,
For life is over, oh so fast.
We all have joy to try and write,
And all you here we do invite.
No one's perfect so be true -
If you're not happy, say 'Adieu! '
Kindness is the best to give
Adds sunshine to this life we live.
We may not have a lot of money,
That's better than to be so cranky.

Merienda
I'd like to tell you about a friend
Who goes about selling snacks
She walks alone from Monday to weekend
From the subdivision gate and back.
This friend is a hardworking Mother
On whom a lazy husband depends on
We're of the same age but she is quite stronger
Has a tray on her head and a bag she drags on.
She comes in the afternoon just around three
And I called her the nickame 'Merienda'
It's the Spanish word for snacks specially
Covers the sweets, rice cakes, and the pasta.
Merienda has all of my utmost respect
For she does an honest way of earning
She works in the only way she can expect
To live life with dignity, instead of begging.

Forgive As You Have Been Forgiven - Acrostic #3
Forgive as you have been forgiven
Overcome the pain by setting it free
Remember He paid for all of it
Grace and mercy for you and me
In your heart release the burden
Verily you have the keys to the prison
Each bitter memory kept you forsaken.
Ask not for vengeance or retribution
Seek that the offender be blessed
Yesterday can never be brought back
Only nagging scars rob you of happiness
Until you let go, peace you will always lack.
Heaven is here where you are
As He promised He will never leave you
Vast is His forgiveness, it is not far
Each one can be touched by Him, it's true.

God Is
Foolish doubts or a thousand 'Whys? '
Cold anger and bold resistance,
All of these do not nullify
The awesome truth of God's existence.
Even pride and sheer arrogance
Or stark denials of His grace,
Fail to drown His Mighty Presence
And cannot cease His powerful ways.
Clench your fists and curse if you may,
Bask in dark emptiness of soul,
Wallow in your unbelief each day-
Blame the God who can make you whole.
Be stubbornly lost and confused,
Pathetic in your whimpering,
Blaming God is your poor excuse
For wasting your life by just existing.
