I Do Not Read To Dissect a Poem

I do not read to dissect a poem
It's not there for analysis
Although with insight, it can become
A good specimen for diagnosis.

I read to enjoy most poetry
To savor the meanings, perhaps some rhyme
It's like drinking a good cup of coffee
The taste lingers on for a time.

A nice poem may bring me somewhere
To the places that I've never been
Vivid words may paint images there
Showing scenes I have never seen.

Poetry, as an art, is a vehicle
That carries our thoughts and emotions
Like a ship on which we can travel
To a land of unlimited horizons.

If You Must Run, Run To Him

If you must run, run to Him
With loving arms He will take you
Give light to your life that's so dim
He is the God Whose Word is true.

For we are all sons prodigal
Lost stubborn sheep a-wandering
But He promises us life eternal
His Grace alone is what we're missing.

If you should cry, cry to Him
He knows your heart and all its pains
He will fill it up to the brim
With Peace and Joy for you to gain.

If you are lost, be found by Him
He'll cure your pride and all your blindness
His Presence then will dwell within
For He alone is perfect happiness.

Prison

A drink becomes a dozen glasses full
To dull the sleepless mind of pain
Escaping is the wine, deceitful
To the heart rejected once again.

A crutch always comes in handy
When down times come a-visiting,
Excuse the emotional disability
A nice relief comes fast with drinking.

But there the chains are set to trap
Each glass encloses unseen prison
Like cobwebs holding a victim up
The drinker is shackled in addiction.

As the brain cells deteriorate
Like rusting metal negating use,
A virtual prison the Self creates
Sentenced itself to Alcohol Abuse.

The Reason Why

Asking the unanswerable 'why'
Is like seeking light in the dim,
Life and Death we can't deny
No reasons needed, so it seems.

That Fate does not come knocking,
Nor does Death have any manners
Is a daily truth we are all facing
For Life when lost is regained never.

When people walk like sitting ducks
Ready to be cut down for no cause
Then something of Why must be asked
And the Reason searched with no pause.

My simple question is the puzzle
Where came the bulk of ammunition?
The absence of the needed muzzle -
Are stricter laws on gun regulation!

Catalyst

Distress is the catalyst of Change
Provoking a nagging unease
To seek out resolving range,
As it births metamorphosis
For the searching, questioning Soul.
When the vagaries of teachings block,
The light of Experience makes him whole
For those who seek will find his Rock
On solid ground, and there create
The fire of Strength, the beacon of Wisdom.
For everyone who asks opens the gate
And Truth will enter...it will surely come!

'If you seek Me, you will find Me, if you seek Me with all your heart and with all your soul. '
(Deuteronomy 4: 29)

The Only Way

Jesus Christ is the Only Savior
He died for us sinners all
God's Only Son, our Redeemer
Forgiving those to Him who call

For He alone did shed His blood
Up there on the Cross at Calvary
He gave His life, the Way to God
To save all men like you and me.

He knocks today at your heart's door
And to anyone who lets Him in
His loving Grace to him He'll pour
Forgiveness, Love, shall reign within.

It's So Wonderful To Be Free

See how these islands beckon
Hear the palm trees' songs
Feel the gentle breeze that please
Say 'here's where you belong'.

Run free on shores of sandy white
Chasing waves that race with you
Bask in the warm embrace of sunlight
Amid the skies of powder blue.

Undress your life of useless worry
Time has stopped, at least for now
Breathe in the view, drink of its beauty
Think... well, you deserve it somehow.

Rest awhile with Mother Nature
Stay with Her on a place near the sea
She will relax your mind, for sure
And you find it's so wonderful to be free!

When We Close Our Eyes

When we close our eyes
And pretend all is well,
We condone the lies
That our leaders tell.

When we fail to see
What goes on around us,
We may lose liberty
And not make a fuss.

When we close our eyes
Accept things as Chance,
Our humanity dies -
We lose our Substance.

A time to be silent
And a time to speak,
Wrong must be bent -
It's not work for the Meek.

A Merry Heart

Like a good medicine
It is the oil on a man's wagon
His sunshine in the rain
The breeze that blows his sail on.

A merry heart lasts longer
Prevents his bones from drying
Makes him do things better
His veins will not be clogging.

Arthritis will not pain him
And strokes are far behind,
His wrinkles will be few
For peace will fill his mind.

Wealth cannot purchase it
Nor surgery transplant
But a merry heart is nurtured
By a life that's free from want.

A Sight Such As This

To keep her brood inside safe, protected
The mother swan spreads wide her wings,
A sight such as this I have reflected
Showed me a glimpse of His Divine caring.

All creation testify His Kindness
Boundless, infinite, given free.
Loving, awesome His Faithfulness
Yes, the LORD is good and full of Mercy!

'He will cover you with His feathers,
and under His wings you will find refuge;
His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.'
