The Night I Thought I'd Lost you
Don’t
remember
when, but
where, I do.
Nor the
reazon
why, but
on what,
I know
too.
That
distant
Copenhagen
Mushroom
Night
I thought
I’d lost you.
My eyes

The Value of Rubies
Virtuous woman
Valued beyond rubies
Till time and wear
and truth and tear
steals the light
Better for value are you
women of ill repute
in dimly lit
alleys and taverns
Who, when paid:
Tells you they love you
When you know they don't
Tells you to trust them
When you know you can't
Tells you this matters
When you know it doesn't
Though who tells you
they stay
by the hour

I Like You
I like you.
I like you a lot,
she said.
But when you’re with me
I see you thinking of
her.
You told me
from the start.
I know.
Honesty & Truth.
I know.
I won’t compete with ghosts
or pictures
on your wall,
she said.
I won’t.
I can’t.

A Cab Drivers Confessions
And in the light
of dying day
your voice grew
strong
and boastful
as you showed me
your
celluloid past
pointing them out
One by One
telling me names
and dirty deeds done
and secrets shared
of
severed heads
landmine limbs
in treetops
and dried human ear
in key-ring
We raised our cups of whiskey

Death Of A Teacher
Thirteen years older
but hardly wiser
I return to my past
to find you
six months dead.
Still alive in this head
is memory of you
and our infamous
three days and nights
sustaining on
sunflowerseeds
and moonshine.
as we pissed the
hours & days
away
till I gave up
and went home
alone
to the biggest
hangovers ever.

Footsteps (Killing F(r) iends On Paper)
The sound of
footsteps
in the gravel
behind you
makes you turn.
Your eyes widen
and your jaw drops
as does your
smoking cigarette.
You stare at me
for a second
or two.
You are not smiling
and though
your mouth moves
it speaks no words.
Gunshot breaks this silence
as your head explodes
in a cloud of red mist
and bone.

Black Hole
“Now, what was I gonna say? ”
I forgot. It’s gone.
out the window
through the black hole in time
and my head,
like so often
before.
Along with
wallet,
keys

Nice Eyes
'You have nice eyes
- I love you!
Truly! '
she told me.
You are pretty too,
I'm flattered
but taken
I replied
Take me home tonight
she does not have
to know
I DO love you,
truly!
She continued
But I would know
I said
Knowing drunk men

Dead Dog
I saw him walking
down the street
dragging dead dog
behind him.
As he saw me
he stopped.
“Dog dead” he said,
pointing at carcass in tow.
A noose around its neck,
entrails exposed,
dead tongue awry,
lifeless eyes
covered with
thin film of dust
staring
at rising globe of fire
in disbelief.
“It happens” I replied.
He sat down,
I lit a cigarette,

No Boyscout
He was a friend
of a friend.
A dirty undercover cop
that would set you up
and then bust your ass.
Selling drugs,
or guns,
or minors,
and then,
once caught,
for a price,
let you go,
and sell it
all
elsewhere.
I met him again
in his bar
doing a choke
kill all
hold
