Evil Blind
He spoke audibly
John the baptist heard Him
So did the multitude
He is alive
In my heart
He is alive
In heaven real
Speak Lord
Let us hear
Your voice again
Speak through thunder
Through lightening speak
With your voice
Make dead men rise
And with the wind
Your spirit felt
Come down again
On earth we plea

Shadows in Town
As usual, they stand outside
the building, dressed in black
and squared shoulders.
I used to think they looked ominous
until it occurred to me,
they serve the living and the dead.
Passerby never waved or give a nod.
They are treated like quarantined lepers;
and no matter how hard they work
their clients wail.
They served with distinction
but no awards are given;
and at cocktail parties,
they do not disclose what they do.
They are appreciated only
within their ranks;
they exist as shadows in town.

Betrayal
Breathing heavily,
his right hand
dropped to his side.
Frigidly,
he clutched to the piece
like a respirator.
A chance meeting
led to marriage.
Friends surmised
a blissful union.
After twenty years,
he found the mounds
under the sheet.
Unprepared for betrayal,
he rushed to the rack.
His index finger retracted twice.
What was released,
met its targets fatally.

Deception
There is an infectious attraction to power,
even when it is oppressive and murderous.
The Uniformed and Articulate,
mobilized by the latest chariots,
deceived the trusting multitude.
Desperate and uneducated,
they flocked to the bossom
of the High Profiled.
Hoping to be drunk
with privilege;
In the end
they are fleeced.
Easily, they are appeased,
with promises of liberty and justice.
Even when for generations
their reality is abject poverty.
Some didn't even try.
Hoping to go to heaven

Third Heaven
'For as the heaven
is high above the earth
so great is his mercy
toward them
that feared him'.
Psalm 103: 11
Winged creatures, glistered by glory,
snapped him from the peak of the earth.
Consigned to heaven:
The elders en masse, in white robes sang:
Hallelujah! hallelujah! hallelujah to the King!
'The heaven, even the heavens,
are the Lord's:
But the earth hath he given
to the children of men'.
Psalm 115: 6

Winds and Skirts
...it was the hem of her skirt I saw;
the wind, though blowing lightly,
revealed the contours of her frame.
Wished I could say I was not moved.
The host whisked her into a room
but the aroma of her perfume lingered.
Were I to see her face again,
I would not recognized it
but the hem of her skirt, well.
I stood there for an hour
with my face stuck to the pane;
my facial image is still there,
yet I did not see her.
I have smelled many perfumes since
and have seen many skirt hems...
What would I give to see her body
sway in the winds?

When Earth Quaked
Earth uncovered
Two hundred thousand dead
A woman groaned
Stone slabs crushed her head
These are the times
When God weeps
When the earth quaked
I heard His steps
In my pain
I am filled with anger
My blood curls
As I ponder
How many lives slip
In this quake's blunder
This is how earth rage
I am thankful
For the hands He sent
The press

Tribute To Oku Onuora
The poet's pen, like a sword,
cuts through unconsciousness.
Each word, each line in sync
cutting and burning in a pot of dub,
dubbed wise the poetry of justice.
Dubbing in freedom,
dubbing out lies and oppression.
Dub, dub, dubwise!
Metaphysical ink cannot be contained:
It is life, giving hope to the captives
and the socially wounded.
It needs no affirmation
or confirmation.
It just drips dub, dub, dubwise!
Heed the poet's calling:
He cannot lie,
he cannot die,
he exorcises

Tell It
Tell it horns,
Tell it drums
When they worth less than mules
Bareback on plantations
In the blazing sun.
Tell it whips,
Tell it spits
How flesh burns
How it bleeds.
Tell it seas,
Tell it ships
Lost of the mother-tongue,
Muted songs from the mother-land,
The packing,
The hunger,
The liturgy of death;
The stench;
Tell it.

Here I Come-3
Hold me forever
With your Almighty Hands
Tell me again
I'm forgiven
Feed me
The Body and the Blood
For here I come
Through the narrow gate
Leaving the sanctuary cleanse.
Cover me
With blessings
As I cover my flock
Hold me up
Hold me up
Strong Tower
Love Everlasting.
As I travel
Life's highway
