Fear
His head is all you see from the rubble:
the sun did not lose its luster,
the moon did not turn to blood,
nothing collapsed on or around him,
and the earth did not quake;
he is sunken by fear.
Governors twist his noble brain
with contrived terror on the tube.
He missed his neighbor's protection;
he is repulsed by their hue.
His motives are seen
by the All-Seeing Eye;
he hates the races
and loves the blues.

The Cross Africa Bears
The mysterious blackness scares;
It's the organic rhythm
Undecipherable by the Klan
Or souls from the bongo drums
That fracture bones of injustice
While stamping feet give us hope.
So we stamp,
We spin,
Raise our feet,
And dip in suns;
It's the cross of Africa we bear.
Hail! hail! hail!
Ancestors rise;
Hail! hail!
Tell us of blistered years,
How you overcame the shame,
How you survived the scorns;
Hail!

On A Day Like This
Circumstances hitting hard
Economic and social woes
Breathing down my back
Nowhere to look
Nowhere to turn
Feeling spurned
On a day like this
Cannot lose my sanity
Over necessity
Have to keep pressing
Looking ahead
Remembering
Dread times never last
It's just a monkey on my head
On a day like this
Roast a potato or a piece of yam
Ask Uncle Joe for a pound of fish
Give God thanks

He Saves
Be reassured:
'Ye are saved by grace
and not by works
lest any man should boast.'
Be reassured:
Do not even try
to purge yourself of sin;
if you could
Calvary would be for naught.
Come to Him as you are.
He will do the cleansing;
He purifies with His flesh,
blood and fire.
Be reassured:
'Though our sins are red
like scarlet
He will wash them
white as snow'.

Children
They have dreams
And aspirations too
So step back
And let them bloom
Prune to flourish
Don't pluck them
This principle governs life
Yet you eat the young
Fighting for Identity
And a sense of place
What will the future be
When you cannot see
How your actions
Affect eternity?
We have cheaters
Haters and killers
We have rapists
Masochists and arsonists

Women Time
Set the women
On the politicians
Watch them run
Watch them scream
The fool them
Declare war on the women
A war they cannot win
With words they cannot spin.
Say!
Say!
Say!
Set the women
On the politicians
They will let them burn
They will let them turn
Ashes in a urn.
Say!

Dust
Searching for crumbs
between the empty trash bins,
he remembers his early days.
Then, he had his independence,
provisions were never scant.
He could more than live
on a doctor's wages.
It was like this for a long time,
until he tried the stuff.
At first, it brought him ecstasy
and nirvana at the croft.
A few friends intervened;
the asylum did their part.
Yet he still could not
practice his art
for the thing,
the stuff
the dust,

A Lover's Bickering
Deep in my innermost part
I feel her desire,
Her greatest hope,
Is to see me dead.
Why then
The unreasoned bickering
When I tried so hard
To please her?
Maybe she is hurting
And sees me as the cause,
Or my pressence
Reminds her of a former
Lover, uncaring
Or my accent
Betrays my place of origin
Or it's just me being me.
Who knows why she hisses
Could be her natural

A Work Story
He stood still
For thirty laborious years
To let the blood drip;
Eventually, it stopped
But not before
He lost his mind,
Tangled in a serpentine grip.
She could not cope,
Not with him like this
So she grew wings
And the children,
Trapped in confusion,
Despised the monster
He had become.
In his final hour,
He surmised:
The ordeal would be tolerable
If I had not given my soul.

He Alone Is Worthy
Sing along with the angels,
Adorned in white,
Kneel before Him
In honor of His throne
Sing along.
Thank Him for His mercy
For His council
Thank Him for His Glory
Thank Him.
Holy holy holy
Is His name
King forever
King of heaven and earth
Holy holy is He.
Mighty is His name
His kingdom everlasting
His love all enduring
